View Full Version : Epc and cylinder 3 misfire

2013 audi s4 dsg
102866 miles
Upgrades:
Stage 2 apr tune
Dual pully
Apr cooling system
Apr intake
I've replaced:
All fuel injectors
All spark plugs
All coil packs
Supercharger to runners gaskets
I'm getting the codes p030300 and p130a
still. Usually happens when I give it some throttle under load. I also have code p050700 sometimes when I'm letting the car idle.
I'm assuming it's the throttle body I need to replace for at least the high idle code. I was wondering if it would also fix the other codes? The misfire happens only when the cylinder is hidden so I'm also assuming it's not really a misfire but a code triggered because that's the cylinder it's hiding right away.

Definitely should like cat or intercooler.
You notice any coolant loss?

Ya. Not much but a little. I have a pvc valve assembly in my garage just in case I needed it. Is it because of that?

No it's probably a leaking intercooler on the side that cyl 3 is on (passenger side I think)

Do I just replace the intercooler on that side and that's it?

Probably need a new spark plug in that cylinder at a minimum, also may need cleaning could consider the full carbon cleaning depending on how the valves look. At your mileage, I would do the PCV since you have it, and water pump/tstat if it hasn't been done recently as well just because you'll be in there already. All of that extra though, it probably is just a leaking intercooler core and would be fixed just by replacing that and the plug.

So I've had the supercharger off a few times and I couldn't see any sign of leaks but is it because it has to have some boost pressure to leak? Sorry for so many questions. I'll definitely replace the pvc and I bought the bg 44k for the fuel.

Your cylinder 3 intake port will probably be filled with orange gunk if you were to look at it today

Ya after seeing some videos and checking again I definitely think it's the supercharger cooler too. I get the parts in a week so I'll have an update then. Thank you all for the advice!

At that point, would not it make more sense to change the SC with a used one instead of changing the IC inside the SC? They go for 400-500 used I believe

Why not?

I have an upgraded pully on it I didn't want to mess with because I don't have that special puller and I didn't want to risk a used one having the same problem if those coolers are the only weak point. I did consider that at one point

Why not?
Because you're spending $500 instead of $150 to put another set of used intercoolers in?

I was under the impression that if one of the IC fail, the other will eventually follow suit?

Ah. Thats why I personally prefer crank pulleys. Makes servicing and swapping the SC much easier

CAT Same symptoms I had
He wouldn't be losing coolant and misfires wouldn't be localized to cylinder 3 but every cylinder on that bank if it was cats. It does not sound like cats to me.

UPDATE: I took those screenshots after I replaced both supercharger cooler cores. So I now have all new coil packs, spark plugs, supercharger cooler cores, and throttle body. The code p050700 is gone because of the throttle body but I still have the epc and CL for cylinder 3 and it hiding the cylinder.

I have 2010 with 180K and epl stage 2 with fluidamper pulley. Did the IC change out for new; old ones looked fine. It's very easy to mis-set the butterfly flap on the runner/intake following SC removal. If you've had it off and on a bunch trying to solve this (I've battled same issue; gone knock on wood), it's possible it got slightly catty-whumpus during the reassembly. #3 is in an awkward location. FYI - There is a sneaky coolant leak often associated with the IC's that actually comes from a plastic coolant pipe that runs across the front of the engine. 06E121045BD You might want to check for a small weepy leak there. Not necessarily linked to your misfire.

I changed the ic on both the driver and passenger sides of the supercharger. Definitely looked cleaner on that cylinders section of the ic. Also changed the oil in the supercharger. Because it cuts the cylinder as soon as the car starts to hickup it makes me wonder if it only has cylinder 3 as a misfire because it hides it. I sent screen shots of the o2 sensors and what not. I am starting to wonder if it's the cats.

scope the cat, if you had a leaking IC which it sounds like you did it very well could have taken out your cat.

As for me, I’m now at 255k miles and still using original cats. I did find, unfortunately, that changing out fuel injectors without changing out ALL the seals on each injector resulted in a leak which of course led to second removal of SC in short time frame. $$$. I also somehow ended up with an OEM PCV with a crack in it. Changed existing working fine prophylactically due to Milage and ended up with a leaker. All running fine now

I recently had this issue with my 2011 S4 Stage 2+ Ultracharger as well, but it was only under WOT and I would get the EPC light and limp mode. Consistently threw Cylinder 6 misfire. I brought it to MULTIPLE shops after changing coils and plugs. Was told it could be anything from a clutch pack to failed cats (I'm at 90K miles) to carbon cleaning , and everything in between (Leaking coolant, etc.). Finally it was suggested to unplug the Ultracharger wiring harness, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in. It fixed it, and saved me THOUSANDS of dollars! Then I continued here for more research, and found this :

Last night pulled a 0-60 in 3.23 without launching. Not saying it'll work for you, but it's worth a shot!
