Hello and good day fellow enthusiasts, I searched through threads with various test pipe info, but i was unable to find the info I needed.

I have a C7.5 3.0T A6 but I figured i would have more luck finding info in the B8 section. I'm looking into transitioning the car from stock to ultracharger. With that said I've already figured out which water to air intercooler to use along with other supporting mods.

I'm searching for a test pipe solution but I had one reputable shop tell me that they do not recommend JHM test pipes due to cracking and other problems. They were pretty adamant about stating they would not even order them for me because they do not stand behind the product. Is this still an issue even with the revised pipes? If it was as easy as swapping downpipes on an MQB car I wouldn't mind trying out test pipes because it can swap it out fairly easy. However, the installation of test pipes are pretty labor intensive so I'm trying to get it right the first time.

Thank you for your time,

Devin

I ordered JHM test pipes and when I got them in quality in hand they feel insanely well put together the welds are gorgeous. Most test pipes should be fine I would just definitrly stay away from Becker. Ive had a couple people tell me that they are pretty garbage. Honestly your best bet and the best sounding option would probably be to hollow out your stock cats. Less rasp from those.

I've had friends with Becker's and JHM fail at the welds. I agree that gutted cats are the best, just make sure you reinforce the welds on the upper flange.

Get a Merc Racing heat exchanger for cooling.

JHM's first version were crap, they swapped mine out for their v2 pipes when they stated leaking so they did stand behind their product. So far so good with the v2's. I was looking at Eurocode when that happened, they look nice and price is good too.

The welds on my Becker (OBX) held, but the passenger side lower flange was out of spec causing a leak.
Replaced them with JHM V2's and DP HFC w/X-Pipe - I don't think they have a HFC solution for A6/A7s though.
Other Test Pipe options are Tampa AutoSports (?) and Red Star.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their experiences. I've been trying to find more information on Tampa autosports test pipes but was unable to find a product specific to the C7.5 chassis.

Thank you again to all that are taking the time to share their experiences.

I would love to do the gutted cats with the reinforced flanges, however, finding some random cat pipes on ebay for the A6 will be alot tougher than locating for the S4. Maybe I'll put my faith in the JHM pipes since the version 2 notes are specific to reinforcing the pipes for strength.

Post on the forum probably won't take long at all.

You sure they're different parts?

I assume there is a difference because JHM lists two different part numbers when it comes to B8 vs C7 test pipes.

Weird. Same for this one...

The eurocodes will fit thats what I'm using on my A6... the B8 S4 pipes are the same. Eurocodes have an extra bung for wideband etc if you install one in the future.

You'll need some titanium exhaust wrap to wrap all the way to the baby resonators and vibrant j-hooks for the 02 sensors. You'll also most likely need a stage 1 tune to help with the CEL if the vibrants don't work with the stock tune. Some cars are finicky, mine is. Might be PCV issue with me tho.

I'm researching program switching with APR and I believe I'll need to APR app with the dongle tool. I'll most likely have a 93 octane test pipe file, 93 octane non test pipe file and a 100 octane file to run some E40 for when I do the RS7 fuel pump.

Nobody mentioned Redstar? Those seem pretty solid. Should be like $500ish for a set.

I have Redstar, and would recommenced them. Only issue is DS O2 bung is too close to firewall. I would have it moved forward 1/2" if I was to install another set. Rasp is definitely there, mine are wrapped so its probably less, but still noticeable.

Ecode makes nice test pipes
Won’t touch anything JHM after buying their garbage clutch/flywheel and then meeting more people than I can count on 2 hands with similar failures from their clutches to cats and cracked welds , it’s all fly by night junk

Becker's crack, JHM crack, just get gutted cats and weld the flanges

Yeah I looked for weeks and read all the threads. It seems all test pipes will crack.

I still went with test pipes as they are theoretically easier to change then the oem cats which are a nightmare.
