I have the garage door opener programmed for my garage. To say the least, the range both linear and radial distance are awful. I have to be no further than 25 ft and directly pointing at the sensor on the garage door motor to get this to work. This is not the case with the actual garage door opener remote.

Does anyone else experience this? Is there something I could do to increase the linear and radius range? Does anyone think this is something Audi could look at? I believe my Audi warranty expires in the next few days, so I'm hoping to figure out asap.

I agree with the distance part of it. It's pretty terrible. I have to almost be right up on it to open, and then wait for it. My actual garage door opener in my allroad can open that door before I can even see the garage.

That’s the case with my wife’s 2018 A5 coupe. My 2017 A5 cab, not the case.

I can usually (75% of the time) open my garage door with the in-car system and actually close it only about 10% of the time. As a result I keep a clip on remote opener in the car all the time now. When it does work I have maybe 125 feet range to open it. The antennae cable on my garage door opener is rather short at maybe 2 feet in length. I added a good 10 feet of wire to it and that has helped with its receive range.

A lot of people have switched bulbs out for the CFL or LED bulbs on the units but that will interfere with its signal. There are a few LED bulbs on the market that are made specifically for openers that you can get or just stick with the "old school" incandescent bulbs.

I have great range on mine (probably closer to 200ft), but I do have to hold the button for longer than I do in other vehicles I have with the homelink system. It's a solid 2-3 second push..

The only nuance I have is if I reverse into the driveway to back the car in, if I press the button, the garage opener doesn't get any signal and the garage door wont open. I've also had this happen when the side of my car is facing the garage door (I'm parked in front of my driveway), the signal doesn't go sideways to the garage door opener and it won't open or close..

I have to hold my button a few seconds but it gets really good range just like 15 Phantom S6.

Only difference though, I can open it while facing away from the garage no problem. I do have houses on the opposite side of the street however.

Same. Range is ok, half a block, (3-4 sf homes away) but have to hold the button for a bit as you described. Both S6 and SQ5 the same.

MY17 RS7, when directly facing or perpendicular to garage, max range is about 60ft.

never tried using it when the car is facing away from the garage.

I've had shitty range on mine but it sounds like maybe the trick is to hold the button down. lol, I'll try this next time I'm out.

I have good range (2-3 houses) and can do a short, single push (no need to hold it). It usually takes 2 tries of long presses to shut it if I back in and am pointing away from the house, and even then I need to be very close to the door (not at end of driveway)

With my old Genie openers, quick push and distance was about 2 houses. With new Chamberlains, distance is about a house away and I have to hold the button down until the door moves. Same for the wife's Acura.

Holding the button down is the trick. I thought I tried it before, but I guess not. This is much better and far less stressful in the morning when leaving for work. Thanks everyone!

I also agree that holding the button down for a couple seconds is necessary but if you are running LED bulbs in your opener, you may be experiencing some interference that is cutting the range down significantly. After switching to LED bulbs, I noticed a big difference in range where my openers would work (both homelink and manufacturer remotes) from a significantly limited range. I simply added some additional wire to the antenna wire that hangs off the opener, wrapped it around the hanger material and it solved my issue of limited range........ I can open my doors from 3-4 houses away with zero issues.

I had the same problem when I changed to smart Led bulb for my opener.

Buy this:

Are you referring to your car battery? I don't think that is an issue for me.

Yes car battery.

Check the antenna wire for your garage door opener, it may need to be re-positioned as well. I also use a chamberlain.

Some of us don't want our whole houses under Google or Alexa surveillance. I prefer to have less connected devices.

Holding the button for 3 to 5 seconds has provided much better results for me. I can now open the garage from a few houses down rather than only (half the time I press the button) in front of my garage door.
