Looking at the BK Motorsports RS6 front bumper kit for my 2013 S6, do the distronic sensors need to be recalibrated after the install? If so, anyone got an idea how much a dealer is going to charge for that procedure? TIA.

Anytime you remove the ACC radar sensors from front bumper, they need to be recalibrated.

If you don’t turn the car on, you will not have to recalibrate the sensors. I have had my front bumper off multiple times, including switching to a BK Motorsports bumper. I have never had to recalibrate anything.

Yeah but OP is talking changing his S6 bumper to the RS6 bumper which is a physically different shape. It will definitely require recalibration.

As stated in my post, I went from an S7 bumper to a BK Motorsports RS7 bumper. No calibration and it works great. This has been discussed many times before and it is rare for anyone to have to calibrate it.

Does ACC still keep the proper distance? It won’t complain I guess but I feel like for safety reasons it is better off having it calibrated because of the different shape.

Yes it will, I've read multiple times that if you Disconnect the battery before starting no calibration is needed. Just make sure that you have everything installed before connection of the battery.

The shape is not THAT much different when it comes down to it. It is a touch wider and has bigger lower grills. I’m not sure the ACC radars even move from their original location. My center PDC sensors changed a bit when I went from the S grill to the RS grill but again it was very minimal and caused 0 errors.
I changed my bumper almost a year ago and have never had any issues with ACC distance, PDC, or the front camera. To me, I can’t justify spending extra money to have the calibration done when everything works without issues.

Only reason I worry is because the ACC radar modules are on the lower grill, where there is the most change. And, I think, it's also used for the emergency braking system.
That said, you're totally right it's pretty expensive to calibrate ($700-$1000) at the dealer.

You are correct. The emergency braking uses them also. I have accidentally tested mine a couple times and still works like a champ. LoL.

Thanks for all the input, I'll disconnect the battery before the installation and hope for the best.
