View Full Version : Multiple APR Tunes on A7

Hello everyone, I’ve got a random question I hope someone can help me out with. I’ve been running a 93 octane stage 2 APR tune on my A7 for over a year now and I love it. I wanted to with a higher octane tune but don’t always have the fuel available to run it full time and being my DD, I had to think about that. When I went stage 2, the shop that installed the tune and pulleys made a comment about maybe being able to flash the ECU with multiple tunes that could be selected as I wanted, but came back and said it couldn’t be done. I found APR’s pdf on selecting the tunes using the cruise control stalk for the S-series cars and was wondering if that tune select could be enabled with VAGCOM or something. Or does anyone else know of a way that I could have say the 91, 93 and 100 octane files and swap between them as I wanted? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

The A6/A7 3.0TFSI files are all single program for APR. Program switching isn't available for them.

Thanks for the quick reply. Man, that sucks. Being able to select tunes from the car would be nice but I’d even be happy with a module that plugged into the OBD port to load different tunes when I wanted.

You need a different tuner then. APR doesn’t allow custom maps based on setups or map
Switching or home flashing

Who would be a good alternative? I’ve got APR’s dual pulley setup with stage 2 tune but know i want to do more stuff not within their boundaries like a bigger crank pulley, ported supercharger and larger TB than their ultracharger. I wish I knew more about tuning than I do, otherwise I would probably want to make my own maps. Of course being able to swap between tunes would be a huge bonus for me also.

My q5 3.0T is GIAC stg2. It came with a small controller which plugs into the OBD port and can easily switch between 93/100/Stock/Valet maps

Hmmm....something to think about for sure. I appreciate the info.

Their tune supports everything you just stated....Also, why would you need a larger than 80mm throttle body? It's been shown to do nothing past that.

I have EPL I can do all that and then some at a lower cost. But then again I am biased. I’ve heard 034 allows this as well. But APR won’t make you a custom map for your setup unless you go to their dyno in Alabama or something like that. Huge turn off. I’m sure apr does put up good numbers too but the inconvenience doesn’t justify the price

I probably don’t need bigger than 80mm but I’m still researching it all

I have integrated engineering on my a6 and like it. Very easy to switch between stages and 91,93,100,104 and e40. I know some people have had trouble with ie trans tune on the s4 but I never had any problems whatsoever on a6. Also ie throttle body tune works with apr ultra charger

I’ll have to look into EPL and 034 also. I had gone with APR because I wasn’t sure how much I wanted to mod my car and wanted it to be “safe” but now I want more than they can provide.

If you want program switching go IE. They have the best tune that has that capability.
Also, elaborate on what you mean by "I want more than they can provide" referencing APR.

For one, program switching would be a big one but as far as I can see, the only other tuning they have for the 3.0T past stage 2 and pulleys is the stage 2+ to go with the ultracharger. I don’t think it’ll support having a ported supercharger, bigger crank pulley or anything beyond their ultracharger.

If you need program switching get IE. All other tunes with that capability are inferior, not even a close second.
I have all of the modifications you're looking to do with APR and it runs beautifully. See my signature.

Wow. So you were able to mount on the 75mm Porsche TB and your APR dealer loaded the tune on? I was under the impression that you had to have the APR TB for them to load the stage 2+ on. Also, was the Porsche TB a plug and play bolt on to get it to work? I have been trying to read into alternative TB besides APR’s $1200 ultracharger and it’s a lot of varying comments. Also, what octane tune are you running to get 10.89 1/4 mile? That’s impressive as hell.

Throttle-body is a plug and play kit from iAbed, has nothing to do with APR. I'm running their off the shelf stage 2 tune, 104 file with E40 fuel.

Yeah, I gotcha it’s not an actual APR TB. I just didn’t realize dealers would load the stage 2+ tune on a car that didn’t have the APR TB. I’ll have to check out iAbed too.

To clarify there is no 2+ tune from APR. It's s either stage 1 or 2 file. Ultracharger file is completely different.

Oh ok. I was just going off of what they call it on their site “stage II+ Ultra”.

I would have been IE tuned already if they only had support for the simos16 cars. That being said I might sell the A6 end of this year, lease a tundra for the family vehicle and look into a different platform for my weekend/project car.
