View Full Version : Outside temperature sensor reading high

Got into my car today and I noticed the outside temp sensor reading 110 F. It was parked all day outside and while it’s hot, the actual temperature was only 90. It started going down a bit, but it was still way off after my drive.
Anyone know where this sensor is located?
Anyone have issues with their sensor and what did you do to fix?
I’m still under warranty, but just curious what it may be.
Thank you.

It's just inside the grill, under the crash bar. Mine also seems to read a little high but the bracket holding it on my car broke and I just wrapped it around some trim piece.
Some pictures in this thread (https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a6-c7-platform-discussion-194/outside-temperature-sensor-location-2937404/) for the A6, but should be similar location for your S7 as well

Nice thanks.
I couldn’t actually find many threads where people had this problem. Anyone else experience an off or broken thermostat?

Both of my cars (2017 s7 and 07 legacy gt) read high until you start moving. They are both black so i figure that has something to do with it. Temp sensor under a black hood with no airflow would be higher than actual air temp. At night they both read about right.

Mine broke off a couple weeks after I bought it, I have since zip tied it to the grille. When I got the RS-style grille i zip tied it to another sensor instead.
Mine always reads high as well. Even when it was attached the grille, out away from the motor an exposed to air.

I've found that parking on a hot tarmac parking lot with that kind of heat will cause the ambient temp sensor to read high until you are actually driving.
Of note, I have recently gotten the same error that you posted about last year regarding high coolant temps and the open/short circuit at terminal 30 for the coolant pump (B11D5). Did swapping out the thermostat fix your issue? Or did you need to eventually put in a new main coolant pump?
