Rim Color Suggestions for a 2016 A6 W/black Optic Package 5 Arm Rotor Design Factory [Archive]

Long story short my factory 20 inch rims appear to have permanent damage to the surface of the rims. My car was part of the diesel scandal and sat for years so something must of been on the rims when the car sat. Numerous rim repair companies have stated they can get really close to the factory color but cannot duplicate the *machined titanium look* of what my rim came like from the factory. I wanted to keep the rims as close to factory as possible but if it cannot be done then I was thinking if I'm going to pay someone to paint them why not change things up.

The car is Mugello Blue, Pearl Effect* with black optic package... so naturally I thought why not just paint the rims black but looking at the rims they appeared to be 2 tone so maybe all black with a small line of another color or? I was thinking maybe bright green with black on the fronts edges on each arm but I'm definitely open to suggestions/input if anyone has any pictures of what they've done on a dark blue audi or really anything to just give me some ideas I'd appreciate it.

You ever think about gold rims? I do believe that Tire Rack will show how the rims look on your car. Question: do you have a heads up display? If you do does the front windshield tint affect it?

I have not thought about gold. Like dark gold? And my heads up display still works great.

Funny you decided to post this question. I have the same rims but with a Moonlight Metallic(or whatever the hell its called) as my color. I love the titanium finish on the rims but the previous owner hit every possible curb before I owned the car. I can get the rims fixed but it will not be the same color as factory. In for suggestions too...gold is a bit much for me but great idea!

Dark or mid bright gold would look good IMO. Look on Tire Rack to get a visual or you could Plasti-Dip one of your rims and peel it off if you don't like it

Tire rack doesn't have my color because this color was part of the exclusive package but I chose the closest color to it which is still not even close Haha. Real life pictures would be better. Plastidip maybe but a lot of effort.

Those images dont do the actual look any justice...lol they look extra Smedium! Ok so plasti-dip sounds like a hassle but think about paying about $20 for a rattle can and an hour out of your life vs. $500 per rom that you might or might not like

I'm not trying to get you to buy this stuff I just dont want you to waste your money. But you drive an Audi, so technically you can get your rims sprayed periwinkle blue and it will still look good

I don't know. Got any pictures? And they said they could get it really close but not perfect and if it wouldn't be perfect I'd rather just go with something different.

Can't help you on choosing a new wheel color but I can confirm that the titanium finish on the wheels is the standard color with the black optics package. I have a S6 with Audi exclusive interior and exterior colors with the black optics package and the wheels are a part of that package and not the Audi exclusive packages. The dealer should be able to connect you to whoever does their wheel repair/refinishing. Good luck!

Yeah, that's too much IMO, but it's your car. And yes, I've had them on my eBay wish list and I found someone on Facebook who's running them and he's happy with them. I might pull the trigger soon.

Lifetime warranty on peeling. Any issues with powder coated wheels staining ect? I live in spokane so there is snow a couple months out of the year.

So ignore my crap photoshop skills haha. But I've done a lot of research and I'm strongly leaning towards powder coating. A local shop has a sale going on for all 4 rims powder coated for $296. That includes mounting and balancing the tires back on the car. I'm thinking about getting high gloss black. I think it matches the factory black optic package very nicely. Was wondering if anyone had any input? Scheduled for tuesday. I also got gun metal gray but I figured the black would go with the black optic package better.143047143048

The only thing I can suggest with the gloss black is invest in some sort of ceramic coating for the wheels. The high gloss black attracts dust and dirt like crazy, I have to wipe my wheels down every 2 to 3 days. But when they are clean they look amazing.

My understanding is that you can't powder coating plastic because A) it usually involves applying an electric charge so the powder coating sticks, and plastic is very insulating. And B), you need to cure the powder coat in an oven and the temperatures often exceeds the melting point of plastic.

However I have seen some powder coating shops online that claim to do it using some tricks like powdercoating the wheel + center cap at the same time.
