Hey guys, after doing a bunch of research and testing I found a setup that works for me.
Here’s how it goes
Baby resonators deleted (xpipe instead)
Suitcase changed to rs7 suitcase
Mufflers from a b8.5 s4 (gutted:repacked, welded one side) *insanely difficult but worth it*
H pipe added infront of rs7 resonator.
End result is
0 drone
Loud when your on throttle.
Here’s a video *hope you enjoy*
https://youtu.be/2U_4p3gtBvg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CV3jniAkGlM
skip to 2:26 if you only want to hear the exhaust. rest is me talking about shit ive done
here are some setups ive had and can also recommend.
--------------------------
setup 1*
--------------------------
stock downpipe
s7 resonator
s7 non sport muffler
no drone kindve raspy (will post vid later)
----------------------------------------------
--------------------------
setup 2*
--------------------------
custom 3" tubing
rs7 resonator
a7 muffler
no xpipe/ hpipe or anything
weird sound almost 0 change in tone
--------------------------
setup 3*
--------------------------
magnaflow 11365 muffler
suitcase delete (replaced with xpipe)
deleted baby resonators
drone drone drone! from 0rpm to 3000rpm
*wouldn't reccommend*
--------------------------
setup 4*
--------------------------
S7 non sport muffler
suitcase delete
stock baby resonator
drone from 1600-1900 but a gtr style sound
--------------------------
setup 5*
--------------------------
stock s4 muffler
rs7 resonator
stock baby resonator
very similar to stock a7 sound (no drone) slight burble on upshift.
--------------------------
setup 6*
--------------------------
s4 muffler (rebuilt)
rs7 resonator
baby resonator delete and replaced with non resonated xpipe
hpipe added 5-8 inches infront of rs7 resonator *deepens sound*
0 drone loud on wide open throttle.

So according to my muffler guy, he cut the s4 muffler open. inside there were 3 chambers. he opened the chambers up then he repacked the muffler.
im not 100% sure what he did exactly but compared to the stock s4 exhaust on the a7 its much better.

update! sounded like a gtr but there was a TON of drone..
put the baby resonators on, put the rs7 resonator back
removed the Hpipe after the rs7 resonator. (sounds like it used but a little less refined)
going back for more exhaust work on wednesday

I will be following this as much as possible. I am literally looking for the same thing out of my A6. I think she deserves a much louder presence than provided by Audi. Please keep me posted because I love where this is going. Any way to get specific details from your exhaust guy about what was done with the S4 mufflers?
Jivoz123
09-20-2019, 01:55 PM
It’s hard to describe exactly what he did because I wasn’t there, but from what he said
He opened the mufflers, inside there were 3 chambers, he took out 1 chamber and pretty much straightpiped the 2nd one, then he repacked everything with steel packing or whatever and closed it.
We tried doing only s4 mufflers but it sounded 100% stock

So by removing one of the chambers inside the mufflers, this is what opened up the exhaust? This is not a criticism, just a question...Wouldn't that be the same as adding a 2 chamber muffler like a magnaflow/flowmaster etc 2 chamber? I dont really have much exhaust experience other than with my former mustang but that was litterally straight piped from the headers back to 2 chamber flowmaster mufflers. A car like that doesnt drone so that wasnt a consideration I had to worry about.

i tried magnaflows and flowmaster super10s..... results were absolutely terrible.. sounded like a honda.
opening up the chamber completely changed the tone of the exhaust, now it sounds refined and the videos dont do it justice. the car is loud with 0 drone which wasnt the case with the magnaflows. also the magnaflow mufflers are very small which could be the reason they created so much drone

Hey, long process but appreciate keeping us posted, I have a couple questions though:
1. baby resonator delete and replaced with non resonated xpipe
---what is a baby resonator? I've been under my car, also doing multiple exhaust changes, to achieve the same goal as you (load but little/no drove).
2. hpipe added 5-8 inches infront of rs7 resonator *deepens sound*
---I am running resonator'less, factory "X" pipe still in play, is yours?
Do you have pictures of the underside showing 'baby resonator delete' and 'hpipe' addon??
Thanks in advance. Today I welded in a single cutout, dual like before would drone like crazy, single isn't too bad but still not what I had hoped... my exhaust guy worked on my exhaust 6 times, he laughs when I come back, but he's super flexible and patient with me haha.
142829
I'm about to throw in the towel and order the Magnaflow kit (but will remove the resonator), unless I can find out what Magnaflow mufflers they're using but the website won't say unfortunately.

so the baby resonators are the little bottles right before the factory xpipe.
the hpipe is right after the rs7 suitcase resonator.
ive tried magnaflow and didnt like it. go with vibrant performance. they are much much better

I've had the Vibrant Performance Resonators, used two of those to replace factory suitcase... I had them in with no rear mufflers and with 2-Chamber mufflers, didn't help much, removed the resonators and the 2-Chamber mufflers and put it back to OEM. Before today I went back to suitcase delete and OEM mufflers and like I mentioned before I just did a single cutout.
Here is my OEM exhaust, possibly different since you have a 2018 whereas mine is 2015?
142836
So maybe, using the picture as reference, I don't know what the baby resonators are because our exhaust is different?

Yes, I installed two of them (for each pipe):
1. was straight piped, installed 2 resonators to control rasp, failed.
2. installed two Flowmaster44 to the original OEM muffler location, maintaining the 2 Vibrant resonator, didn't achieve the sound I wanted nor help with the rasp 'enough'
3. removed the 2 Vibrant resonators and put back the 'straight' pipe(s), maintaining the Flowmaster44's, too loud but not deep.
4. removed the Flowmaster44's and reinstalled the OEM mufflers, maintaining the suitcase delete, accepted it for what it is (a little deeper and louder than stock).
5. I've done other things since but just wanted to answer the Vibrant part.

there is absolutely 0 noise inside. and even on wide open throttle it isnt that loud. from outside it is noticeable and turns heads. but that might just be my intake XD

So my whole exhaust project is on hold pending the results here. So far I'm looking at downpipes, suitcase delete for x pipe with s4 mufflers modified to 2 chamber. Looking for loud, not obnoxious but loud. As for drone, can't a little dynomat or something similar in the tunnel take care of the drone issues? Thoughts?

As the car sits
Stock baby res
Center replaced with 11385 magnaflow
S4 mufflers
I think something broke inside the s4 muffs
There’s a ton of rattling

My next setup is going to be with sq5 mufflers and a single 2.5” exhaust similar to a r35 gtr

Yes, please do. I picked up my A6 a few weeks ago, and like many others, I'm trying to figure out how to give the exhaust a deeper note and growl, while not having any drone in the cabin. I have a used set of S7 rear mufflers with valves that I plan to mount, but I'm sure that will do little to change the note. Any advise is appreciated.

Im looking to find a soind loke this with aftermarket equipment. Its hard to sourse a rs7 suitcase and s4 mufflers rather then having specific aftermarket muffler/resonator combo.
Not sure its even possible but i love a clean sounding exhaust so i will be experimenting a little also. Just not with stuff u need to find used/ rework.
As of now just center suitcase deleted is horrible at certain points legit sou ds like a damn honda with a fart can on back....
Not sure how with stock cats, stock resonators, and stock mufflers it could have this sound......
Does any one know if the s6 and a6 have same size spot in rear for mufflers? If so maybe just a track to touring conversion kit would fit perfectly from a s6/s7? Its like 650$ for just the rear mufflers but are a known good sound.
