Has anyone had a clutch or transmission go out on one of these yet?
Called local OEM dealership and 3 reputable independent shops. They all said the exact same thing "can't give an accurate quote, we've never had to do a clutch in that car". Seems bizarre. It certainly feels like a bad clutch, starts slipping/RPM spins with no acceleration under heavy load. Under light load, the car drives okay. Also, I cant find the clutch packs for sale online (?).
Had transmission fluid changed, and tried the VCDS TCU re-adaptation process with no luck.

Any thoughts?

That is strange, especially on a stock car, considering there are ones with 600+lb-ft of torque going through them for 10's of thousands of miles at least.
I've been on here a while and have not see mention of anyone replacing clutches...mechatronics, yes, but not clutches. Maybe see if you can get more detailed codes from someone with VCDS. Clutch slippage could be a result of a pressure problem as well which would make me think mechatronics again.
I believe this is the whole clutch pack to give you an idea of the part cost..nevermind the massive amount of labor involved.

P/N may not be exact it would be best to check with dealer for that.
You may need numerous other items in the replacement process as well... FWIW a new transmission is $8000 compared to that one part at $1300...and that might not be the only issue.

Glad I'm not the only one that finds this very strange.
I'll look into the mechatronics unit again. At the cost of clutch/transmission R&R, it seems senseless not to spend the $500-1000 first I suppose.

Exactly. R&R is inevitably going to be the bulk of the cost - to be expected.
I saw the part you linked, but it doesn't appear to be compatible with the 13-15 S6's, unfortunately:

I have the opposite. Under very light load or no load, I get slippage. This occurs when I come to a full stop or let off the brake. As I slowly creep forward, the car shimmies and shakes until I begin accelerating. I also had the same warning pop up.
However, I cleared the code and it hasn't returned. Just bought a Rosstech scanner to get a proper readout on the code the next time it happens.
I'm at 89k miles, the last 20k or so on a Stage 1/2 EPL ECU tune and TCU tune.

Saw this earlier, thanks mate!
Definitely similarities, but a few different variables from his issue. That was the only relevant thread I found, and with those differences + Audi/Indy Shops dumbfounded reactions, I figured I'd start a new thread.
I submitted the info for the Class Action suit (https://www.classaction.org/audi-transmission-problem-lawsuits), but I'm unsure if this is a transmission or clutch issue. They mention juddering, hesitation when accelerating, surging and clunking, but my issue appears to be more along the lines of "slippage".

Yeah, fitment on ECS can be hit or miss....but AFAIK that is the only clutch part that exists for the DL501(0B5). I think a lot of parts sites (and even owners) forget the S6 comes with the s-tronic.
I wouldn't bet my life on it, but like I said double check with the dealer and VIN.
If it were me and I was going through all the trouble to replace the clutches I'd definitely look into an upgrade.
Same issue though they do not list S6 fitment, but I'd double check with them directly.

Great info, thank you! I agree on an upgraded unit. I'll reach out to SSP. Love your garage btw, my previous daily was a 14 SQ5, loved it and miss it!

Usually this code and the adaptation not working together is a low fluid issue. check that first with the car at the right temp.

This was one of the first things suggested to me, so I had the ATF serviced. Unfortunately it did nothing.

What were the previous DSG service intervals? The clutch could have failed prematurely if the original fluid was in there for almost 90k.

Great question, and point. Unfortunately I do not have full service records. I have only had the car for ~20k miles.
Out of curiosity, are there any other 90k+ mile S6's out there that have or have not serviced the ATF and what has your experience been?
I admit, perhaps I was negligent in just servicing the transmission after having symptoms, I just hadn't seen any documented issues, and the stealership never brought it up (it's been in to the stealership on 2 occasions in the last year for unrelated service). Not trying to deflect blame, just saying, it's not as if this was a glaringly obvious issue to preventatively address.

You could try to flash a trans tune in with higher clutch pressures and see what happens?

Any updates on this? Just had a very similar error. My mechanic did the transmission reset a couple weeks ago and just got the same message on the screen. My code is slightly different but similar symptoms.

One could contact these guys for clutch parts: SSP AUTO SALON, LLC. (https://www.sspperformance.com/contacts/)

The error looks like display 2 in the SSP 990193: Display 2: "Gearbox fault: You can continue driving to a limited extent only"
"Display 2 appears when gearbox protection functions and faults result in a loss of performance.
This can have the following effects:
– “Limp home” program: “Driving with sub-gearbox 2” is active. For example, gearshifts have interruptions in tractive power (even-numbered gears only)
– Gearbox protective function is active, but engine power is reduced because the engine torque reduction function is also active
– No power transmission to the driving wheels after stopping
– The engine can no longer be started"
It would appear to be a problem with clutch K1.

Mine was clutch packs. Fun enough, my mech unit went out recently (hard shifting from 2nd into 1st at complete stops). So I just had that replaced too.
