View Full Version : Dash and Radar Install on RS7 (Pictures Inside)

So I just bought my RS7 about two weeks ago. I always use both the camera and the radar as a "second set of eyes" should an accident happen or should I actually decide to have some fun in the car.
Blackvue DR900S-2CH (front & rear) with a Power Magic Pro box to keep it running when car is off along with a Uniden R7 with Blendmount.
It was interesting finding a way to mount the rear camera but one custom bracket later and voila. With the heavy tint the rear camera is literally invisible in the back of the car. Ran the wiring through the headliner to the rear. The Power Magic Pro sits in the fusebox.

Where did you get the custom bracket for the rear camera?
I went with the escort passport Max 360 Ci, tried to make it as factory looking and stealth as possible with display inside the rearview mirror and the control in the compartment in front of the gear shifter.

Nice! The shop fabricated the bracket in about 20 minutes so it wasn't purchased anywhere. They just popped the trunk and went hmmm...no where easy to mount this. Came up with that as the solution. It's basically a hook underneath the rubber and holds well.

Does your rs7 not have AAC or High beam assist? Are you not blocking any of those cameras mounting your dash there?

I'll test them out tonight and if issue I'll bring it back to them to re-position simple fix

Yeah, there are 3 cameras or sensors right there

Just a heads up you will have to, I had it mounted exactly where you had it and bunch of errors pops up

Thanks for the head's up. Little things I didn't think about when installing it. ACC works fine (it's in the area where fog lights would be in the bumper). Automatic high beams are overly sensitive (they flip high quickly because light obstructing). I'll just clip one of the zip ties and reapply some 3M and shift the camera slightly right that should solve the issue. Haven't tested the rain sensor but I'm sure it won't work as well.
Thank you Audizine!!!

Very nice! How is the recording with the back camera since it seems you have tint?
Love the set up man.

There's two screen grabs from rear camera it takes video fine. I may rotate it one click higher to get a little more visibility since it's clipping the rear of the window.

I haven't had any errors yet.
Active Cruise Works fine. My automatic lights work. Rain sensor I know is on top not facing forward so that should work fine (it's where it's been on my previous Audi's including the R8 in the garage).
The only TWO things I can see that this sensor does that the car doesn't do properly is Lane Keep Assist the icon stays yellow won't go green (which I can't stand to begin with on any car) and the automatic high beams come on really early (not a deal breaker). I prefer the camera dead center at the moment so I'll keep an eye on it but so far so good with the dash camera where it's at.

Thanks for the post and perfect timing as I’m getting my BlackVue 2 channel installed on Saturday. I was worried about my tint but it looks fine on yours.

So is the dashcam blocking the lane assist cam? That is why I used the Blendmount system for my Blackvue. Not cheap, but its very nice and sturdy. You can find a promo code for discounts.

Haven't done a dash cam yet, but I'll +1 the Blendmount. I had my V1 mounted to my S4 with a Blendmount, and now with the S7 am running an R7 on the Blendmount. I have a Max360 paired with a Blendmount in my wife's Q7 (like all the abbreviations?). The Blendmount is significantly more expensive than the cheap mirrormounts on Amazon, but the quality of construction and streamlined look make it well worth the $$$. Anything else cheapens the car.

Blendmount is what the Uniden R7 is sitting on. Can't do both on the mirror.

You'll need to custom fabricate a mount for the rear like my shop did. Otherwise you'll have to pull apart the hinge for the trunk to pipe the wire all through there. That seemed overkill.
If you are happy how things are, then all is good. For me, blocking off a sensor or one camera may interfere with system functions. All this electronics somehow need each other. You may not even have a camera at the bottom of your mirror mount.

I'll probably move it just with this upcoming hurricane coming into town it's not on the priority list. [facepalm]

Looks like it. When I bought my RS7 CPO it was installed upside down.

So I spoke to installer I'm going to have them reposition the camera so the sensor is visible because I'm going to have them do some minor adjustments on the blendmount for the radar. Thanks guys for the head's up. The automatic lane assist seems to work today but definitely that sensor is for automatic high beams on the mirror. Car gave me warning saying it is non-functional because camera cannot see.

which piece the part just below the dash camera that flat piece? I just looked at it if I flip it definitely does not fit.

See above. Plus it's dark out now and I don't have great lighting in garage I'll look again in the morning.

Just to be clear, we're talking about the cover that 'clips' into the rear hatch, below the window. The main cover. The side pieces and bottom two metal 'tabs' should not be visible from the outside when the hatch is closed. Hence why I think it's upside down. It's not a great picture, but you can sort of see the underneath.

Okay gotcha. Still waiting for the sun to come up. I'll take a look at it later. Is it easy to put on and take off? In the dark last night it wasn't easy to move (it's like a rock in place) so I didn't want to press hard on it without seeing what i was doing.
EDIT: Given how dark the previous owner tinted this car I don't think anyone is seeing tabs from the outside. [:p]

When it's right side up, it's easy to pull the round things on each side away from the pegs, then move a little forward to disengage the metal tabs. Upside down, you may need to use a trim tool as a lever to help disengage them.

Does that modified piece pull easily out of the roof lining? Anyway you can pull it out without messing anything up? I’m curious what the rest of that piece looks like that’s tucked in.

I have basic warranty thing for them to do at dealer I'll have them put it on right way then if it requires a tool to fix.

I think it's just a hook honesty I didn't watch but I can take a closer look and play with it when I have them reposition the front piece. Took them only a few minutes to fabricate the piece.
I remember someone on one of the Audi forums made a similar mount on their A7 and showed how they did it. Just can't find that posting. But that is a good diy mount, instead of snaking the wire through the hatch.

Yeah installer said he "could" snake it through the hatch but he said it would likely be un-necessarily complicated but since it's my car I'll do whatever you want. I agreed with him simple is better. The less stuff pulled apart the better.

I think you are thinking of tenspeed's post here:, https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/725123-Why-everyone-needs-a-dashcam?p=12013306&viewfull=1#post12013306
You found it. I like the one the OP had made, it puts the cam closer to the window which is more desirable. But both diy ideas are great.

Does the Blackvue have live streaming? Would be cool to view both cameras at any point when away from car. Or better yet when there’s any vibration.

Yes but you'll need a continuous data signal (either tether to phone or wifi hot spot from RS7). I don't bother with that.
Anyways moved camera so now sensors can see no problems.
