I was recently rear ended at a stand still (2018 A7) and my gas tank door won’t close.... cars in body shop. Anyone know why the tank door won’t close? What does this mean?

That really sucks, sorry to hear.

So you have a C7 though (2018), not a C8 (2019+)? If so, I can move this thread over if you'd like.

the fuel door actuators on these cars are terrible. they usually get stuck in the closed position, but sounds like yours is maybe stuck in the open position.
why worry? bring it to the dealer. warranty item.

You were in an accident, let the shop & the other persons insurance worry about that.

I had the door fail on my S6. My coworker had hers fail on her Tiguan. My buddy had his fail on his S4. This spans over 8 years of designs from Audi and VW. It's quite clear whoever their actuator engineer for their fuel doors sucks at their job, or the corresponding QAQC is awful. They've learned nothing in that time period.
