View Full Version : AudiConnect has expired
My SIM card that came with my 2016 has finally expired.
What are people doing for AudiConnect?
Audi wants $25.00 a month for unlimited data.
I already have 5 lines with AT&T but they wouldn’t just send me an active SIM card.
So what are people in the US doing to get reasonably priced Audi Connect?
I really want traffic information and google search. I also like the map overlay but considering the google maps overlay will be leaving next year it’s even more insulting.

Not to change the subject, but what all does AudiConnect provide? I also have a 2016, so I'm assuming mine will expire soon.

I pay $10/month AudiConnect on my 16 RS7 with AT&T.

Are you a wireless subscriber with them to get that price or you pay that outright?

Mine shows at $10 a month also as an addition to my line on AT&T. Maybe $25 because you can't add it to your existing service.

I bought my 2015 A6 CPO, and got the first 6 months free. When it expired, I wound up paying about 120 or so for a full year. Now it's up again, and they want 25 a month on the Tmobile plan. For what it's worth, you get access to google voice search, some news and weather feeds etc and being able to shoot the addresses from google to your car via Google maps.
To me it wasn't worth it. I went RSNav instead and have an old iphone 6s sitting in my armrest connected wirelessly for CarPlay which is perfect. I use my android phone as my main daily and have it connected to bluetooth for calls. For me this works better than anything Audi offered on Audiconnect.

Freedompop Data Only SIM with 200 Mb for $0 per month. Good for traffic and Google maps with plenty of data to spare.

I did a US Mobile SIM. I did the 2gb plan and it used to only be about $15 but it's gone up to $18. You can lower the data to get a lower monthly especially if you don't use it all the time. But I get all the Audi Connect benefits without having to be on one of their plans.
Eventually I'll move to an RSNav unit since google map overlay is going away, but this suffices for now.

What's an RSNav unit?

That is basically a unit allow you to use carplay and screen mirroring.

But if you have a 2016 better to just get @carplay_audi on Telegram to activate CarPlay for you imo.

The dealer could never get my free trial to work on my 2018. So I've never had it and don't even know what I'm missing.

It was only useful to update Nav maps & to see the orange highlights along the busy roads. The traffic function was useless. Only showed interstate 80 miles away.

I believe you have to call Audi's Connect customer service and specifically ask for the 1gb AT&T option for $10/month, but you can cancel any time online. I only hit the limit once when I did a road trip from IL to NC and back because the Google overlay kept pulling in new data.

I use a Google Fi data SIM. $10/GB, and I've used 0.07GB this month haha.

I believe you would need to have at least one line that has text/phone capable for $20/month.
However, I know you can freeze/pause service. In which case you may be able to immediately freeze the $20 line, and only use the data sim only. I'm not 100% certain on that since I use them for my cell.

Freedompop Data Only SIM with 200 Mb for $0 per month. Good for traffic and Google maps with plenty of data to spare.
My Freedompop pulls 2MB data packages like every minute when I have Google map overlay on in a new area and burns through the 200MB very quickly. So I only put the SIM in when I really need it. Also, most of the months it is $0.01[;)] They keep charging a penny to make sure the card on file is still active.

If you don't back the membership down it's close to $100 after the first month. I cancelled my account and two weeks ago they charged me $40 more. I called them and no one answered. I had to have my CC put a permanent stop to all their charges.

Just called to get a new SIM card and asked about the $10/mo plan through AT&T. They've replaced it with a $15/mo plan for 2GB. The rep said a lot of folks were pushing just over 1GB and had to pay another $10 whenever that happened, so they switched.

For folks with an at&t unlimited plan, you can add your car for $20/month to share unlimited data, just like any other phone or device. More expensive, bit you never need to worry about going over data limits

I was able to do this today. Just took an ATT guy willing to set it up as an iPhone instead of a car. Works great. Unlimited data and $20 a month.

Just wanted to share that while this method gave me traffic Wi-Fi and Google overlay Audi connect still thinks it’s discontinued so it doesn’t give me the actual AudiConnect features.
I spoke to Audi today and they’re having a special for $20 a month unlimited data so I’m going to cancel AT&T and go directly with Audi.

Have you tried using the myAudi app? With the latest version of AudiConnect, it seems like you have to re-sign up with a pin that the app gives you to make sure all your features are enabled.
My limited understanding is that AudiConnect primarily uses at&t anyway, so you shouldn’t have to switch (in theory). All my features work fine.

Man thanks! I resigned up with a new account and it worked perfectly! Now I don’t need to cancel and swap or wait for the Audi Sim. Thanks didn’t think of creating a new account.
