Picked up a used A7, car has 80k mi and was extremely well cared for. One owner, woman, gave me all the maintenance records. All maintenance was done by an Audi dealer. Looking at the latest receipt it has 3 write ups that the owner declined, they are:

1. Engine Mounts Collapsed and Leaking. What I find strange is that I found a receipt dated 6/2016, so about 3 years ago, car had 50k mi on it. So in 30k miles it needs another set of engine mounts? Is this normal? In addition, price quoted from the dealer is $1865....really? I can't imagine needing engine mounts again and that soon.

2. Front Upper Guide Link Bushings Torn. Cost $745. Required?

3. Front Lower Control Arm Bushings Torn. Cost $1540

How are those prices? Going to bring it to an Indy to get looked at, I have a feeling the Audi dealer mechanic was being nit picky due to slow business here over the summer, woman driver, etc.

Other than that car is like brand new, drives amazing.

Quotes are from Audi North Scottsdale.

Thoughts? Recommendations? What should these repairs cost from one if needed?

Thank you!!

A couple different options, and it looks like you are already exploring them. Take the vehicle to another shop, would be step one. The dealer will always find the most something "out of spec" and recommend replacing it.

If you are in the North Scottsdale area, Partscore would be a good shop to start at, for another opinion. If you are in South Scottsdale/Tempe, I prefer Lesueur Car Company for service.

If you decide to tackle yourself, there are plenty of online resources for parts, and the mounts/suspension stuff is pretty straight forward. I'm off Greenway and Tatum in North Phoenix, if you need some help working on it.

Bushing is not that expensive. I would check indy shop for cheaper labor. If you're replace the bushing on the lower control arm, change both side. The whole kit with hardware cost $100 or you can buy the bushing individually.

im confused you state the receipts had write ups that were declined. so the motor mounts were a recommended item to replace 30k miles ago, but not replaced?

parts alone...
mounts are $175 (discount), $280 (retail). i assume you need 2, average $500 in parts.
lower control arm outer bushing $62 (discount), $85 retail. you need 2, average $150 in parts.

not sure what the guide link bushings are exactly.

I think we need a better description of exactly what bushings are to be replaced.

cant comment on what the labor portion should be. but i assume they included an alignment in the cost too. figure that to be a minimum of $200.

So the engine mounts were replaced at 50k mi, confirmed by the receipt. Now at 80K mi the previous owner had the vehicle at the dealer and they stated the engine mounts needed to be replaced, so only 30k mi since the last change.

Much appreciated. I am in N SDL at the Airpark so Parts Score is about 1 mi from my office. I will go check them out. I assume you have used these folks before and they are fair? Would love to find another reputable indy here. I usually use Rory's, same area, however I do not know their level of expertise with Audi's. One place I will never use again is Beck's, robbed me on my 911....as I found out while sitting at Rory's one day. "Sir your car had an alignment here last year, it was fine, no charge". Funny, Beck's charged me $250 - so they drove it 2 blocks, got a free checkup and then charged me telling me it was needed. Liars! But I digress.

Sadly it is not uncommon. Motor mounts tend to be a weak point of the C7.

Are you getting any excessive vibration? Definitely get another opinion.. I'm at 90K miles on a 2012 A7 and haven't had to change any of those parts yet. Dealer serviced..

I have a little over 96K on my12 A6. I have tracked my car over 2 dozen times and continue to do so. In this time, I have had the motor mounts replaced once and my suspension bushings are still looking good as of about 4 months ago. When the mounts were replaced it cost me $436 for the parts and $894 for labor. The parts were giving to me at cost according to the dealer but regardless, the quoted price of $1865 is really high. I would think that the mounts should not fail after 30K miles. In my case my passenger side mount was bad but decide to replace both as a precaution.

Hope this info helps.

Any reduction in ride quality or performance?

Have many of you went to the solid mounts?

Since it's not fluid-filled, you'd probably notice a bit more vibration at idle, but not have to worry about replacing them. My 2nd pair of OEM mounts sheared off after, i suppose, too much mountain road spirited driving.

How do you know if you motor mounts are bad? Bad idle vibration? Can you visually tell?

What’s the difference from the 034 track vs street mount? I’d imagine probably go street unless you have a track car?

Best way is to get under the car and see if black/purple goo has leaked out and/or stained underneath.
I think someone mentioned second way is to open hood, put on e-brake, put car in D and rev it to see if engine jumps up significantly. Although i don't recommend this.
034 uses different durometer (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shore_durometer)rubber for their different levels. I believe they guarantee increased NVH with the track mount.

The same engine mount is for several cars. They list “track” and “street”, but they consider it street for the 6/7 due to the weight of the 3.0T. I called them when I want sure after reading their site.

I noticed that, but they also have a track 3.0t mount. I’d imagine only the more serious track oriented guys would be going for those.

If the vehicle was an S6 or S7, that would be a very reasonable price.

different beast all together but i just had a s8 customer that needed engine mounts and it was $3k. the A7 i could see $1500ish at a dealership. you mean they were replaced in 2016 at 50k and theyre saying they need to be done again? id get a second opinion if thats the case. they mounts are filled with hydraulic fluid that is red and leaks out when ruptured. if they replaced them due to leaking and didnt clean the red fluid the tech could have seen the red stain and recommended based off that.

The last time i checked they don’t make solid mount for Audi A6 C7 only for the SQ5.

Same mount for 3.0T and 2.0T in A6/7/4/5. Lists the 7 and 6 in the listing.

I just found my passenger motor mount had been toast since I bought my car last year, planning on upgrading to the 034 street 3.0t mount this week, let you guys know my thoughts!

That seems like a pretty good price. I recently had an Audi dealership replace my passenger side mount, covered under warranty, but it was $670 for the part and $707 for labor just for the one mount. Car has 37k, miles.

I think he has an A6 2.0T.
The S6 is not only more complicated labor than the 2.0T or 3.0T but the active mounts are very expensive too.
I had the driver's side go at 34k which they good-willed, but the maintenance tech manuals say they should be replaced in pairs on the 4.0T. Dealer warranty repair will allow single side replacement for some (cheap cheap) reason. Since they have to remove the subframe brace and steering rack to replace the mounts and an alignment is required I had them do both at a very slightly reduced labor rate. $650 for the part and $500 labor, so yours was inline with what's expected.

FWIW, had a quote from a local Indy here in Scottsdale, OEM parts and labor - $1020 for both engine mounts. Very reputable shop. Going Monday.

Ah okay, some reason I assumed it was the 3.0T, which I figured would be similar in cost to the 4.0T, since engine is still a 'V'. For labor at least.

Update - Car is in the shop now, cost was $1020 for the engine mounts as I previously reported. Bushing on the upper and lower control arms were gone, both of those was $1565. Indy is throwing in the alignment, so out the door $2565, about $1500 less than the dealer. Looking forward to getting it back and driving it, I assume there will be a noticeable difference.

I just got out of the Indy shop for $1300 including the 034 mounts, I would have saved on shop rate had I gone oem mounts. I feel like my local Indy isn’t much cheaper than the dealer for this job.

When I dropped off the car the passenger mount had been shot for along time. Now it’s much smoother and feel a little more connected to the car (less mount slop). I don’t find it massively different though so far. I’d recommend the 034 mounts, hopefully they last me awhile.

So after having the car for a couple weeks with the new mounts I practically forgot I went to the 034 mount, I’d recommend them if anything hopefully last a long time.

Only weird thing is I have a freeway vibration, not from the motor though. Almost like the shop knocked a weight off the wheel or something.
