View Full Version : O2 sensors going bad!

Last week, my car threw the P2270 O2 sensor code. Talked with the dealer and searched on here, found out probably should clear it and when it comes back on to schedule it to get them fixed. Question is, am I going to have to pay for these or will they be covered under warranty? It's a 2016 S7 with 25,600 miles on it.

it should 100% be a warranty repair.

o2 sensors going bad at such a low mileage is odd.

not even sure why you'd bother clearing it. bring it to the dealer.

They told me that with the sudden change to very humid weather that the sensors could throw a false code. I will schedule and get them fixed, thanks!

That is a load of BS. Humidity won't ever cause an O2 sensor to trigger an engine light IMO..

100% agree. That is total crap. Otherwise people's engine lights would be going off all the time. Take it to a different dealer and have them find out what is wrong.
Was it bought new or used?
AFAIK this code is "stuck lean" it does not automatically mean a faulty 02 sensor...
Could be a number of things other than just the sensor is faulty.
Exhaust leak near O2 sensor
Fuel pressure incorrect
Faulty fuel injector

It was bought CPO used.

It was bought CPO used.

Then without a doubt take it in. No telling what was wrong with or done to the car previously.
Sadly CPO doesn't mean what it used to...like getting a new-used car with thorough comprehensive inspection.
It's just that they warrant it like new or better and will fix any issues that will arise.
I've heard of people buying CPO cars with nearly shot brakes. You'd figure they would see that and replace BEFORE selling, but nope they let the new owner take it home, find out something is wrong then bring it in and replace. Must be some sort of scheme in there. i.e slap a CPO sticker on it sell it at a mark-up then let the warranty company foot the bill for anything that needs to be fixed down the road even if only a month later. Not saying that's what's happening here, just that it does happen.

Your 2016 S7 should still be under factory warranty regardless, as you're under 4years in service. Even that point should be moot, given that it is part of the emissions system, which should be covered even longer depending on which state you're in. You'd think the dealer would jump to fix it, since they'd get paid under warranty for the labor.

This is what I was thinking unless what gk1 said is true and they suspect it is something much greater than the O2 sensors themselves. None the less, I would hope its covered. I am going there tonight for my SQ5, so I will be talking to them about it.

Well, I have an appointment for the S7 next Tuesday. The dealership was telling me that it may be something else besides the O2 sensor, and it SHOULD be covered under warranty! I suppose I should be ready for a crap storm or excuses of why it won't be covered.

i don't understand how ANY problem you would be having wouldn't be covered under warranty.

unless its a wear item like brakes, wipers, etc.....everything is covered. especially if it's a part that could cause a check engine light to come on. if your dealer pushes back, call/email AoA.

Agreed, I will keep you posted.

Today I backed the car out of the garage so I could ride my motorcycle to work and the engine light went out! It still goes in on Tuesday for the O2 sensor. Will the light go out if the sensor is back in spec voltage?

The fault will usually stay stored but the light will go out if all is good after X number of starts.

You have a CPO warranty. The problems will be covered. I had a bad O2 sensor on a CPO 2016 S7. Error code indicated bad O2 sensor. Dealer replaced at no charge (as expected) and no errors since.
