My warranty is expiring on my '16 A6 in October. Does anyone know if there are any good/affordable extended warranties that I could purchase now. Also, would a tune void the warranty? I will be installing my tune in the next month or so.

So you could still get Audi pure protection (underwritten by fidelity), i think you can get it before your factory warranty expires, or pretty much any other aftermarket warranty.
So a "tune" could technically void all warranties (factory/aftermarket), in my case, i bought my car used from an auction, which still had an active factory warranty. Took it in to the dealer and VOILAAA it had a tune on it that i didnt know about. Now my car is TD1 and factory warranty was voided. its was 15 day before it was expiring anyways so i wasn't worried. I spoke to my service manager about aftermarket warranties, and he said that when it comes to aftermarket warranties, dealers/shops treat you as different customer (for a lack of better wording), and they could care less if you are tuned or whatever, they will go to bat for you, with the warranty company to get the repairs paid. Basically, if the service underwriter is a dick, he could technically disclose something like "oh, btw the car is tuned so thats why the trans blew" or whatever. But, usually they wont disclose any of that info unless specifically asked for it. Also not all shop can tell if your car has a tune on it, so you could get by getting stuff fixed at a reputable shop instead of a dealership that would honor the warranty company.

Best thing to do is talk to the service manager at where ever you would be taking your car and ask them how they will disclose if the car is tuned or not. Typically they won't say anything to the warranty company unless they want to see records, or send someone out to physically look at the car.
I have Audi Pure Protection, and my car is flagged TD1 by Audi (previous owner voided their CPO warranty). The Service manager at my local Audi dealer said he would not tell Audi Pure Protection the car was previously tuned unless they sent someone out and wanted check the car themselves.
I believe with A.P.P. you can also take it to a repair facility of your choice and have the repairs done there, and I do not believe they could see the TD1 flag there. Though I have been wrong once or twice before.

If you tune your car, your warranty is voided. So it’s a waste of money. If something catastrophic happens (god for bid) they’re 100% going blame the tune.

Don’t get the warranty...

The general consensus of what I have read on this site is that a tune will void a factory warranty for the drive train.

Although things do go wrong on these vehicles other than the engine, and some of them are quite expensive. MMI stops working, window doesn't go up, cruise control breaks, I wouldn't think TD1 would affect that, and they would be expensive to fix, if you wanted to.

If the dealership is jerky enough they can say “tune related”

It can go south real quick. Once again if you want the tune, don’t get the warranty...

you have a very low chance of a Audi factory warranty repair being performed by an Audi, if you are tuned.

you have a very high chance of a 3rd party warranty repair being performed by a independent repair shop, if you are tuned.

You have a 50/50 chance of a 3rd party warranty repair being performed by an audi dealer, if you are tuned.

I'm considering an S6 w/ 77k on the odo, and I'm also very interested in recommendations in 3rd Party warranties to check out. Not going to flash the ECU, so that's not a concern. I just want to protect the drivetrain against the turbos and the motor mounts issues.

Is anyone familiar with Delta Auto Protect? They just quoted me $4700 for their Diamond Premier coverage, $100 deductible, at 6 years and 100k additional miles on a 2014 RS7 currently with 51k miles.

This is by far the best offer I’ve come across.

Dealer quoted $5700 for 4 years / 48k miles on Pure Protection Platinum.

You know for a fact, that if something non-engine related goes wrong, and the dealership is "jerky enough", they will say "tune related"? Are you speaking from experience? If so, please do tell... Sounds like you're talking outta your gluteus maximus to me - but what do I know.

General consensus is; get a tune + warranty, you run the risk of TD1 and voiding it. There is no definite. Pay to Play

If you tune the car and the dealer finds out they don’t to honor the warranty, it’s that simple. They hold all the power. All they have to do is point the finger and you’re done. My friend is an Audi service tech and he’s told me how simple it is.

Also From experience.

Had a custom exhaust put on my A4 a week after I got it, started having some issues about a year later (small things) when I tell you, it’s no exaggeration they blamed every single thing that went wrong on the exhaust. (Even though my exhaust was 100% perfect) They did end up voiding my warranty... I was however was able to find a service rep who would sneak my car in and have the worked performed because he knew I was getting screwed over.

I can’t imagine if I had a tune it would have gone any differently.

Sounds like you had bad luck... I’ve put multiple catback or custom exhausts on my vehicles and no problems voiding warranties... even when I had intake runner issues, or O2 sensor issues; all covered under warranty.

Not exactly a prime example, since it was MMI or Window Modules as an example being used. Exhaust isn’t powertrain, and it’s not an ECU tune.

Your example Just goes to show the fact it’s not plain and simple, it does depend on the dealership and really what’s the issue/repair needed.

Always a risk of voiding the warranty if you tune (literally no one is arguing that), but it’s not cut and dry. Know what you’re getting into. Do your research. Make an informed decision. Exactly What the OP is doing

If you’re having warranty work done at Audi and have a tune it’s pretty cut and dry. 9/10 they scan it. If it comes up that it was tuned you have a 99% chance that your warranty is going to be voided. If you tell your service manager that you have a tune, you run a very strong risk that they will void your warranty.

I may have had bad luck, but I personally know people who have gotten TD1’s.

Tune, Warranty and Audi don’t go together

Bumping this thread. I think the tune discussion has been addressed. As always your mileage may vary and there’s no way to assure 100% it will not cause issues.

So, has anyone had success with warranty companies outside the dealer?

Troy at FD-Warranty is highly recommended, however he will not provide an option unless the car is currently under factory warranty. Anyone aware of other reputable options?

Here is my feedback: I have the Audi Pure protection for a 2018 S6 - 10 year, 120K for $4840 with $250 deductible, and also foolishly bought the wheel protection for $1200, under finance manager pressure. Then, I went and tuned to stage 1 30 days later, and recently to stage 2, including DP 12 months later.

The terms of the contract clearly says repairs only at Authorized Audi shops, it does NOT say independent repair shops. Form the year I've spent active on this forum, most shops don't seem to support tunes and warranty.

If I did this again, I would not have purchased the extended warranty. Put the money away and saved for a rainy day repair.

Terms of the Audi Pure Protection does not allow non Audi service centers, even if you're looking to buy Audi's Pure protection outside a dealer, and I don't know if you can either.

Autonation has something too, I was sold their Wheel and tire protection, had a tire damage 3 days after I bought the car from the dealer new, and they paid for it for work done at another Audi dealer, even though the paperwork had not been filed in their systems yet. Don't know how they'll work with tunes though..

I think you can cash out on those warranties if you do not want them.

Those with Pure Protection, have you ever had any claims issues or denials with the coverage?
