View Full Version : Just hit 122,000 miles on my 2012 A6 Prestige...

I just had to replace a wheel bearing.

Put on new rubber and new brakes.

Drives like its brand new again.

122,000 miles and the only non-routine issues:

This wheel bearing replacement: $480
Temperature sensor for the A/C: $140 - its a $15 part but you have to decompress and recharge the entire system

Whats the point of this post? I've owned American and Japanese cars with FARRRRRR more problems and expense than this piece of genius from Audi. This has been such a wonderful car, and still is.

And now you can pick these cars up used for $20,000...so much car for the money...

Glad to know I could expect to double the miles on my car. Just hit 60,000 miles.

Curious if and when you had your the carbon cleaned?

Have you ever replaced the ATF in your car?

I did ATF and diff oil at 75,000 miles. Probably will do it again next year though I don't have any rough shifting or anything.

We bought our 2012 A7 with 142K on it, just crossed the 173K mark. American cars I would never touch at this kind of mileage. In my 30K of driving the A7 I have only had to put new front brake pads, everything else has been routine maintenance.

I remember back in my Jeep and Tahoe owning days it was a foregone conclusion that the transmission would blow up at 100k miles!

Pretty impressive. Thanks for sharing.

May I ask how you drive your car, generally speaking? Were you non-stop stoplight drag racing it or driving it like how your grandma would?

That’s impressive. I got a 2013 Prestige with 37k on it for $18,750 plus tax a month ago. First Audi and I’ve been kinda scared to put miles on it lol. But if you got so much with so little problems, I can sleep better at night lol. I’m loving this car so far. Can’t wait to do performance mods next year. I spent $2k+ in getting her to look how I wanted already, so her mod allowance is dead for this year.

My old daily, 2008 Accord has 233k on it and started giving trouble here and there within the last year. But otherwise it’s been reliable with just regular maintenance.

Christ that's a good deal. 37k, that thing is still practically brand new!

Yup, I saw the ad on Facebook and bought it the next day. The A6 wasn’t even on my radar but it was too good a deal to pass up. Car has all service records, had the 45k service done & next tires last year. Got it from a politician that bought it as a CPO in 2016 with 26k miles. He barely drove it.

70% grandma and 30% sport. I mash it on the on- and off-ramps but then cruise once on the interstate. As I tell my wife "I don't really speed, but I get to the speed limit really fast!"

Good deal. We sold my wife's A6 (yes we had 2), 2012 prestige and 73k miles, last month to our dealer friend who gave us $14,500 and has it listed for $19,800.

If i can chime in, i got my 13’ A6 prestige in march of 2018 with 87k, now im at 122k. Modded also, so far ive done front wheel bearings, a trans cooler sensor and routine oil + plugs. My driving is 70% sport & 30% grandma cruising. Have no doubts i can go to 200!130767

In theory most of the components on a car are designed to last about 500k miles. That's assuming normal driving conditions and routine maintenance. Maybe that's the reason taxi cabs and cop cars get discarded once they hit the 500k miles mark. In other words, you might have a few good miles left on it :).

$14.5k isn’t bad. I figure I’ll TRY and keep this for a year or two and sell/trade for about $15-17k+. German bug bit me and I’m already looking at the 2016 740’s w the msport package [headbang]

I had a 2012 a6 with 128k ,I did normal maintenance but also went stage 2 and had cat issues . I did a carbon cleaning too .car was great

I now just picked up a 2013 a7 with 28k so I'm not in a rush to do much because the miles are so low.i intend on a carbon inspection/cleaning soon and regular maintenance
I'm hoping for a summer sale on APR stage 1 and enjoy it
I'll lose my mind and $ when it has higher miles , duall pulley etc

This is all good news. Curious what is the symptom of a bad wheel bearing? Noise?

Oh yeah. You will hear it. Its a whirring/screeching noise that increases in pitch with the speed of the car. One day you'll hear a faint noise. In 6 months it will be loud enough to drive you crazy.

I just crossed 60k km, so like 40k ish miles? Really miss having a manual, but the paddles make for a decent compromise. Really liking the car, although the to do mod list is really growing lol.

My biggest complaint is few, very expensive exhaust options for the platform. I'm leaning towards rear muffler delete.

Original owner of 2013 A6 Premium+ and pretty close to 85K and went APR Stg 2 around 65K. I must say it has been the most reliable vehicle I have owned. Besides regular maintenance, I am on my third Temperature Sensor for A/C (Blame the Texas Summers) and had an issue with a High Pressure Oil sensor. My car would go into a LIMP mode and engine would not exceed 4000 RPM.

My only real complaint is having to replace the tries every 15K or so.

Every 15k for tires, that seems like a lot. Would you say part of that is the Texas heat?

My VW Touareg requires tires every 10-15k. It’s the weight of the vehicles, they’re just super heavy.

Thanks brother, I have the stock non-sport suspension lowered on H&R springs, i also have 18mm spacers and 13 front. They are plastidipped gloss black with lots of coats, I use dishsoap to wash them, and shine them with tire shine.

No, I did not. I covered my brakes with plastic bags and left the wheels on the car. Won’t really be to tell.

Having gone thru muffler options I found the best 3- 1. Remove center muffler (gives more growl but not super refined), 2. Option 1 + rear cutouts for when you want to be loud. Option 3- awe exhaust.

I have magnaflow and I turn off one tail pipe for freeway cruising to kill the drone, it’s not a bad route either, but really best to spend a couple more bucks and get awe (I think).

Isn't there a massive price difference between the Magnaflow and AWE? Like $1500 vs $4k+?

I had an old cayenne where the motor mounts went bad and I know what that feels like. no issues whatsoever with that on this car. My wife's A6 that we just sold was at 80k and no issues either. Actually come to think of it, we put 80k on her 2012 A6 with ZERO non-routine maintenance expenses...pretty remarkable.

$1200 vs $1800 I believe. Center Muffler delete is the best bang for the buck. AFAIK if you remove the stock rear mufflers you will get some sort of drone, unless you get awe.

Yes for sure, you are spot on with the price. I bought mine with 80k mi, like brand new for 19k, put 2500 into it and now its excellent! Sold a 15' Accord, I hated it. So for 4k I traded my 15 Accord in for this sweet ride.
