Hello,
Replacing my rear brake pads, the upper caliper bolt (these are suppose to be replaced) has this large donut spacer on it and it is different than the replacement bolts in the kit, anyone run across this before?

These are just the smaller bolts that hold the caliper to the guide pin. Below is the one in question, the lowers match what’s in the kit. The online parts diagrams don’t show this bolt. Thanks.

What part number is that repair kit that includes the replacement bolts? Also, is it an Audi thing to replace this caliper bolt? Isn't it only tightened to 35Nm, and not a stretch bolt so why replace it?

Lol, more questions for your question but no answers. But yes, I do see it in a manual, I believe number 6 and 8 in the attached pichttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190708/39ea4311f68befcc69e552033e9f7835.jpg

Thanks Minty. #6 is the bolt, it states there in your picture to always renew. In that diagram it assumes upper and lower bolts are the same. #8 is the rubber boot sleeve that goes on the guide pin, that’s different. I may go up to the dealer and see if they can show me a repair kit though and see what they come up with.

I’m also half tempted to remove these bolts and use the standard ones in the kit. It seems to me like its purpose has something to do with holding on the bracket for the electrical connector #7. The dealer did these brakes last year and these bolts don’t look that new, which makes me think even they would just reuse them.

Do you have to completely remove that upper bolt to flip the caliper up? Also, are you tracking your car? How did you go through a set of pads in 1 year?

The donut is a vibration damper (sometimes called balance weights). Different caliper/brake designs may require it. You didn't indicate what model you have. Maybe RS doesn't require the vibration damper, but A7 does. Although I honestly don't recall ever seeing the damper on rear brakes before, usually just front.

I’ve already replaced the pads and reused the bolt for now, but would like to put on new bolts if I can find them. I don’t track it, actually over 50% of my mileage was highway. My front pads are like new, the dealer just must have used some crummy pads for the rear?? I bought the car from them at the time and they had just redone all the brakes so they could put on whatever they wanted. I did get 23k on these brakes in little over a year.

Thanks, I have a 3.0t a6. Both rear calipers have this as the upper bolt. So this is just to absorb vibration? Interesting.

Yeah might be a running change. I just don't recall ever seeing them on rear calipers and none of the online parts sites indicates a damped bolt, just a regular one. Odd.

SOLVED- So I went down to the dealer, they are called rear brake weights. They don’t typically come with them, he said most likely they were added to solve a vibration issue. The part number is wht-001-921 and they are about $13ea. He said they replace them because it puts on fresh lock tight which is better for the threads. I told him that I removed mine cleaned them up and added lock tight, he said that’s fine from a safety perspective as long as they are torqued to the factory spec.
