I picked my first C5 Allroad last week

Absolutely love it and would like some advice please

It is standard clean 2005 2.5 TDI BAU engine

I’ll do the IPP arm mod soon and have a remap.
Adding light bar and roof cage also

I have 17 inch alloys which I’ll keep as summer road wheels and I’m going to get 3 extra 16 inch spare weeks to fit BFG Ko2 ATt tyres as I will use in rural ireland great to access some coastal spots on rough ground

I see some folk have done this

I’m curious of sizes possible

I see 215/70/16 is an option but I wondered if anyone has fitted or could advise if 225/70/16 or 235/70/16

Or even possibly 225/75???

I might also add the 1.5” strut lift inserts if that meant I could run 225/75 or 235/70

I’d also be curious if anyone had some cheap exhaust advice upgrade advice ? Do these have a cat /decat Downpipe option ?

Not wanting to go crazy on bhp but would like the engine running freely and flowing well

My other whip is. 2011 biTdi vW Transporter T5.1 self camper conversion with lots of work done

Thankyou

Hey GMCPhoto,

Based on what I am reading on sizing...here is what I can tell you for now:
225/70/16 No Problem

Without having a proper distance from front to back on the wheel well, so that I can calculate the Diagonal distance from corner to corner of the tires...I think you might be able to squeak a 235/70/16 in there. it is 3.9% larger in diameter than a 215/70/16, or 1.1" larger in diamter.

If you can measure the distance from in the wheel well from front to back, and confirm how much space you have between the tire and the tierods/suspension that is about all i can tell you.

I have been able to "squeeze" some much larger diameter/wider tires into my cars before with the proper math/measurements, even when the Tire shop swore it would not fit.

If my allroad was on the ground, i would be more than happy to help you calculate these measurements as well...but sadly I am just not able to give you that information right now as mine is not in a position to be measured. Sorry about that.

Here is the website I used to get my measurements:
https://tiresize.com/calculator/

P.S. I am a bit envious of your TDI motor in that vehicle...wish I had one in mine...however I do still love the 2.7t that my allroad has...U.S. spec. :)

I’m saving money and parts trying to accomplish the same thing. I’ve read that you can squeeze 225/65/17 KO2’s in there if you do the IPP stage 2 lift spacers, 402 mod to raise the vehicle, and a little inner wheel well trimming. That’s my plan because I don’t want to spend the money to source spare wheels. They seem to be ridiculously expensive new and hard for me to find used ones. I could buy brand new wheels for the same price. My two cents.

Good luck and congrats! Can’t wait to see your AR in that beautiful country!
