I am working on taking my 08 A4 cvt to awd. Can I use the 01E as FWD until I finish getting all the parts or will that not work? Just curious.

An 01E quattro gearbox won’t drive if the propshaft is not fitted, or rear axles are missing.

Drive will be transmitted to the output flanges with the least resistance. It won’t function as a FWD transaxle.

It would be cheaper to get a awd Audi than to convert a fwd, it's not just the transmission but rear structures to mount the differential the fuel tank is different the exhaust so much stuff. Just my opinion but if you are not at least an 8\10 mechanically minded person then forget it.

The rear mounting points are the same between Quattro and FWD.

Quattro rear subframe bolts in place of the FWD item, with the differential, using the factory pick up points, and stock FWD rear suspension. Quattro fuel tank is also plug and play.

Exhaust mounting points for Quattro system are also present in the FWD floor pan. The only difference is the propshaft centre bearing carrier on the FWD transmission tunnel is not in line with the Quattro propshaft bearing carrier. Simple enough to grind off the welds, and move it to the correct location.

I’ve done 2 Quattro conversions, and it’s a simple and painless exercise. I will also be performing the same on my current B7.

I'm already doing the awd swap. I just didnt know if it would temporarily work as fwd. As of right now I have the 01E transmission, RS4 stage 1 clutch, JHM slave cylinder, and stainless steel line for it. It should be a simple swap I've got access to a lift and many tools.
