I just bought a 2016 rs7 yesterday. I traded in my 2013 s5. The crazy thing is the rs7 has 70k miles on it, but appears to be in great condition. Because of the high milage I was able to get a good deal, however this is my daily driver which is going to get 15-20k miles a year. Did I make a very expensive mistake?

Did you buy it with a warranty? If so, I don't see the issue.

Any particular warranty companies that would be a good choice? Thanks

Lots of threads in this sub. Here's one: https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/839544-Extended-Warranty-Who-do-you-have-and-Why

Well if the S5 was a 4.2, you upgraded reliability.

What'd you end up paying for it?

Just update and replace the turbo screen, check valve, and oil seperator and you will be set. Rest is just maintenance stuff.

+1

And check turbos. Change oil/oil-filter every 5k miles.

By the way the brake job is (rotors are) very expensive.

Thanks for all the replies. Got the car for $54.5k. Definitely saw that brakes and rotors will be nuts, fortunately have a very mechanically inclined friend to at least cut labor on those.

70K is not high mileage any more.

All seriousness your fine I wouldn’t worry about it. As said above keep an eye on those things and you’ll be fine

I know...it just was too tempting. Didn't start thinking about it until a tank full of gas later... I'll look into the suggestions. I appreciate everyone's input.

Life’s to short never look back. In the end you’ll only regret the things you didn’t do

It's hard to know based on the S5. If the S5 was mint, low mileage, and full of mods you like, then yes, you may be an idiot. If the S5 was on its last legs, you didn't want it anymore regardless, and you were dying to get into an RS7, you may not be an idiot. For the record, with only one car as an exception, I have had buyer's remorse every single time.

You don’t like your S7?

I just like the thrill of the hunt for cars. When it’s over, there’s always a letdown.

I can kind of relate to that. But then you start modifying and making it your own. That’s a hunt in itself

I think that's part of my initial regret... plus what do I set my eyes on next? R8?... too poor for that...lol

Meh, I think part of it was I was totally let down by my s5. It was in great shape, but was a 2013 with 60k miles. Passenger door rattled driving me insane at times...and even with a unitronic 1+ tune I was very let down by the power... I'm sure after a month I'll be tuning the rs7, but for know it certainly suffices. I think just some initial buyers remorse, but its slowly fading...

R8 and RS7 aren’t priced that differently

You can’t even get a new car for 50k anymore at least not a nice one

lol

there's a minimum of 60k price between these 2 cars. that's more than the average middle class person spends on the total cost of a car.

The used car market for a 16 RS7 and a first Gen R8 is very similar

70k miles doesn't scare me one bit. good for you OP.

Lets say you spent $50,000 on it. A basic Lexus cost $50,000 new these days. Would you rather drive an RS7 with 70k miles or a basic lexus? The RS7 is already well into its depreciation curve also, if not almost all the way through it.

I think OP spent more than 50k on it but A Lexus has no soul. You’re driving a medal box that will fold easily. A RS7? Well that has a beast under the hood. A little Angel and a little devil in its personality.

Just a tad over 50k... 54.5k.... my main concern is if the car was fairly reliable aside from regular maintenance kind of items...
