Had my mechanic repair the leaking coolant flange on my car. Got the car home and noticed the coolant reservoir was filled up to the top. Figured maybe it would take a couple days for the coolant to redistribute in the system but it's been a week and the coolant level is still up to the top of the reservoir. Would having it overfilled cause any kind of damage? There's a max line for a reason right? I know I could go buy a turkey baster and suck some out of there and be done with it but then I've just got a turkey baster sitting around and nowhere to get rid of that extra coolant.

If it’s filled to the top without a noticeable drop, then the system is sealed. Though you can use a turkey baster to take some out towards the MAX line if it gives you peace of mind.

I’ve always filled it to the top and haven’t had a problem.

it will not cause any issues at all ... there is actually an expansion drain in the reservoir that is well hidden. if its too much the car will push it out there... i had a problem with a leaking o ring once and as i was dropping slowly overfilled it when i replaced the oring. i figured if the oring is still leaking or i didnt get the fix it would just go back down.

guess i fixed it as its been over full for 6 months. not a big deal . now i have a new reference point ..
