2012 A7 having a change in steering feel, it recently got notchy/heavy and sort of has a grindy noise when turning the wheel. I'm pretty sure there isn't any power steering fluid to add since it is an electric system but has anyone any experience with either the steering issue or if there is power steering fluid to add that may solve this?

Fully electric steering rack. Being a 2012 there could be a chance its the rack itself. The electronics are mounted on the rack and are known to go kaput causing heavy notchy feel. Have you driven through rain recently?

Have you driven through rain recently? It's been raining but I haven't driven through any standing water. And that's wonderful news, nothing like having to replace a rack, that's going to cost [emoji20]

You should have some fault codes logged...

Strange... is your battery ok? Recently or ever changed? Give it a good charge?

Was the new battery coded?
When you say no codes, are you using VCDS to scan or something else?

When you say no codes, are you using VCDS to scan or something else? The battery should be fine, it was done by the dealer when the car was in for a major service. I have the Ross-Tec VCDS software and that was used to scan everything. Drive it today and really the only issue was that when turning it sounds like the steering wheel is grinding, like 2 plates running against each other

Are you running standard wheels, without spacers?

Are you running standard wheels, without spacers?Yup currently on my stock wheels, nothing with the suspension has been touched yet. It's possible something with the steering rack is all I can think of.

Check the racks wiring connector. Ive see where it was loose causing issues.

Did you figure it out? I have the same issue on my 13' S7 with only 25 000 miles on it.
It's a bit notchy sometimes and a electric sound when turning slightly..

So update, driving home Friday and dash lights up " do not drive - steering defective", luckily it didn't go out and I was able to get off the highway and park in a lot close by. Steering column is making horrible noise so I'm pretty sure the accident I was in previously affected the steering rack and it just went out. Tired to dealer for diagnosis and hopefully will be able to get insurance to cover it.
