When is the right time to implement a charge cooler? Stage 2 or 3? Thanks.

Do you mean replace/upgrade the heat exchanger?
I think it depends a lot on your ambient temperature and driving style/uses. Do you drive in a very hot area with a lot of full throttle and suffer from heat soak then it might be best to do it as early as possible. Or if you frequent the drag strip where the car can heat soak sitting in the staging lanes...then maybe it would help.
I believe APR states it is highly recommended but does not say it is required for Stage III.

It is beneficial on even a stock vehicle so the earlier the better..

But nor will there be a decrease in heavy use during a hot day. In summary you'll be able to do more without heat soak

Yes I meant heat exchanger. I live in California so it’s not terribly hot compared to when I lived in Texas and Florida. I am stage 1 for now but like everyone I’m susceptible to the potential turbo failure so I’m planning on going to stage 3 eventually. As I build towards that I was thinking to grab down pipes next and just wanted to know when it should be done.

Even Stage 1 vehicles see a benefit from an upgraded heat exchanger as the OE unit does not handle heat well and you can feel a difference in power after a few good pulls on an entrance ramp or on a warm day. When anyone contacts me asking about upgrades, I always recommend the APR CPS (https://xlr8performance.com/i-37144-apr-3-0-4-0-tfsi-coolant-performance-system-cps.html?ref=search:https%3A%2F%2Fxlr8performance. com%2Fsearch.html%3Fq%3Dcps%26Search%3DSearch) as a must have upgrade if you want consistent power and a great base for Stage 2 and up power. Feel free to PM me with any questions and if you would like to get one on order.

Isn’t the Mercracing one fairly cheap?
