View Full Version : RS7 won't start -- won't even jump. Dead battery?

I just got back from vacation after 2 weeks, RS7 wouldn't start. This has been typical -- I've had a recurring parasitic battery drain over the past year when the car sat idle.....I've disconnected everything (dashcam, cell charger, Valentine) to no avail....in the end I think it was the APR Bluetooth dongle doing it.
Anyhow I tried using my JNC Air jump battery which always works. No go this time. Without the jump battery connected, the dash electronics don't even fire up. Next the garage guys helped out by trying to boost from a big Lexus SUV revved up, still nothing. The best it can do is a couple quick clicks, but doesn't sound like it's even close to turning over.
Tonight I captured what I could using VCDS. I couldn't load the 08-Measuring blocks screen but was able to load the advanced screen and captured the following.

Does this indicate a dead battery or something worse? If so, is it correct that the battery part number for a 2015 RS7 is the generic Audi battery 000915105DH?
Thanks in advance

Looks like Rev L of the battery is now available, otherwise the base P/N looks to be correct:

Did u try jumping it straight from the battery not from terminals under the hood?

No I haven't tried that yet, can that make a difference?

I would try this
Let me introduce you to "Battery Voodoo"
https://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=845998.
Then Charge or try jumping straight from battery. When I was replacing my battery I connected a charger to the terminals under the hood to keep voltage but as soon as I disconnected the battery car electronics still went dead. Fuses relays and car battery management might be keeping u from starting since it’s completely dead.

I had the same thing when I had a month trip oversea. When I return, I was not able to start the car with jumping cable connect to my friend's car. So I left my friend's car running to charge my car for half hour, then I was able to start the car.
I believe is it is the APR dongle drain the battery since I had it on my car as well.

APR Dongle, ding ding ding!! I didn't even think about the APR dongle using power..
I have 2 cars (1 of them is the S6) that lose their charge quicker than they should when sitting.. I've been scratching my head trying to understand why 2 out of my 4 cars lose their power in just a couple of weeks and the other 2 don't.. Both the cars in question have APR dongles on them. Gonna check to verify if this is the issue..

If you decide to purchase a new battery, you do not need to purchase an OEM one from Audi.
Whatever recommended battery you purchase, you do have to recode it using VCDS (very easy, check YouTube for instructions)

I had the same issue after taking the car out if storage.
Put a battery charger on it for 5-6 hrs and you should be good to go.

I bought a trickle charger, arrives tomorrow night. I'm going to give that a shot first, and will also try the "voodoo" trick if I have any issues with the electronics. And definitely keeping the APR dongle disconnected going forward!

Closure on this issue. Ran the trickle charger overnight, battery filled to 100%. Car started on its own no problem, and has been fine ever since. I've kept the APR dongle disconnected, I'm 99.999% sure that's what was responsible for the parasitic drain on the battery.
For what it's worth, when connecting the charger to the terminal/ground under the hood (not the battery itself), it was only reading 11.4V, not the expected 12.something needed to start the car. However I believe that reading might be misleading, it might be thrown off somehow because it's not read directly from the battery.
Thought I needed a new battery but happy to have solved this issue for a lot less $$/hassle with a trickle charger.
