Attacking the timing chain job tonight, any tips or anything to look for when doing this? I’m sure plenty of the vets on here have done it. Thanks !

Sadly I can’t dig it. Stripped the exhaust cam gear bolt, used the genuine Audi tool also. Kinda stuck on what to do now :(

How did your install go buddy? Still hearing that clank noise from the back of the motor, or just the loud ass direct injection.

Yup thats the next approach.
Its a bit more finicky but you can do the whole job this way now and leave this bolt alone
Its not like you will do this job again in the life of the car

Do you know of or seen any diy’s out there ? From what I’ve read it can be very tricky trying to keep or putting timing back to where it should be

Had a friend come over today to help with this. Sure enough the bolt stripped but I had him handle the timing as I watched since he’s more mechanically inclined, and he didn’t seem to have any trouble keeping it in time. He was following the DIY on the transverse engines and he had to do it this way on his car. It’s not the most difficult, just extremely time consuming. Good luck!
Gonna be priming the engine and making sure everything stays in time tomorrow 🤞🏼

mark the chain and sprockets, line up the marks on reinstall. How hard can that be?

The only difficult think about the cam girdle method is you have to deal with the timing belt too. Not hard but you have to think carefully
