2002 S6, not been driven since January (water pump and power steering leaking, also needs new timing/serpentine belts and battery). Started it up today and put it on front ramps, some greenish hydraulic fluid over left front of engine but no engine oil leak that I could see. Backed off the ramps and left it idling for a few minutes, revved it in park for a moment (say 2000 rpm) and the red oil warning light came on. Checked oil level, close to (but still above) min, added oil, started it up, everything fine. Decided to make a test drive around the block, about 100 yards down the street oil light comes on again. Stop/restart engine, no light, turn around and drive back home. Almost there, oil light comes on again, put the car in neutral, turn the engine off and coast into parking lot...

Never had this before, nor has the car ever leaked or burned oil. WTF can happen to a car's lubrication system during 3 months inactivity???

100% positive it is the low level warning and not the low pressure warning?

HVAC working fine?

the oil level sensor shares a fuse with the HVAC, so shorted mine on a snowy day (no under tray on) and took that out and a few other things.

So any weirdness of the hvac while the light is on?

Red oil can pic with three beeps so i guess it's oil pressure warning. Can narrow the timeframe down to about one month of rotting, did the chemical head gasket test and checked the tensioners via VAG-COM in mid-March. Warmed the engine up and revved it quite a bit, and no problems then.

Yeah Iif it doesn't say level then it's a pressure warning.

I'd get a gauge on it before running it anymore.

Had the same issue with mine. Diagnostics lead me to finding the sensor took a dump.

Gauge goes where, and where's the sensor? Any info on voltage readings etc? Also the front end's gonna come off anyway, so might just as well drop the pan too.

Sensor should be attached to the oil cooler next to cylinder 2-3 on the passengerside. Runs up the valve cover and into the harness.
