Hey guys,
Wanted to do a quick review on a new-to-market product I got this week. I got my A7 about 6 months ago and my first mod was an Integrated Engineering Stage 1. Like most of you, I wanted to hear that supercharger whine like the Dodges do in that one commercial of them ripping around (https://www.ispot.tv/ad/wUcp/dodge-brotherhood-of-muscle-sins). [evilsmile] So, an intake was next. I did a pretty good amount of research on intakes for the A7 and recalled my knowledge from previously owning an aftermarket parts business to conclude that an intake would provide little to no performance improvement - and may even have a loss. Therefore, I wasn't going to spend hundreds or thousands on one. I wanted something to open up the sound and look nice. This is when I came across RKXtech.com (http://RKXtech.com). They sell nice looking black silicone throttle body tubes for the B8 S5 & SQ5 for $85 (https://www.rkxtech.com/collections/intake-exhaust) with optional filters. So, I inquired and was told what pretty much everyone else has said, those won't work on the A7 because they're too short. HOWEVER, one for the A7 was in the works and if I was patient, I'd get one of the first. It was hard, but I waited - and I'm glad I did.
Yesterday, the package arrived and I immediately got to work.

installation was a breeze and the tube fit perfectly with the stock airbox. I took the car out for a bit and ripped down the rural cornfield roads of Northern Illinois. As usual, it was fun and I heard a bit of the supercharger whine - but I needed more!
So, I headed over to Advance Auto Parts and picked up a cone filter (https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/spectre-air-filter-67-in-tall-8131/10116504-P?searchTerm=spectre+filter), breather filter (https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/spectre-breather-filter-10mm-black-3991/10116503-P?searchTerm=spectre+filter) and some vacuum adapters (https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/spectre-vacuum-sensor-adapter-kit-8711/22906024-P?searchTerm=vacuum+adapter). Removing the stock airbox was a bit of a pain in the ass because of the tube on the bottom of it. I had to break part of the clip to get it off, but wasn't too worried about it. This hose is where the breather filter was going on and what I needed to use the vacuum adapters for. Because the intake tube is silicone, it's pliable and needs something to stiffen up where the filter attaches. So, I reused the top of the stock airbox. Worked perfect. RKX actually recommends modifying the airbox for cooler air (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XP_1D6tHKxE), but I didn't have the time to do that yet. I can now hear that sweet supercharger sound!

In conclusion, I spent $35 on everything from Advance Auto using a coupon and with the RKX tube retailing for about $95 (https://www.rkxtech.com/collections/engine/products/rkx-3-0t-silicone-throttle-body-inlet-hose-audi-c7-a6-a7), we're at about $130 for something that (to me) looks & sounds great. I will try to get a good video from inside the cabin today. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!
