Hi guys as it was suggested I tried changing my tranny settings, recode from 00001 to 00032. Doesn't seem to change the code, tried other numbers as well 00002, 00022 but nothing happens. I can change other things in other modules, like door locks, headlights... so I don't think it's the cable am using. Do I need to login to change the tranny settings? And if I do need to login anyone have the login for it?
Thanks in advance, was pretty excited about doing this.
The car is 2000 S6 4.2

The early TCU doesn't support some of the coding changes that were built-into the later ones. And vice-versa to some extent (later ones had some changes that don't allow the same coding as the early ones).

darn was really hoping it would work. that's too bad.
any way to confirm that am not just a screw up or that I need to enter a login code? that is without going to the dealer and asking them if it can be changed?

TCU can't be tuned over OBD, so you have to send in your TCU to anyone who claims they can program it. Beyond that, his 00' 4.2 doesn't have the 'S' mode or any of the DBW / traction control /ABS improvements fro the changes on 02' , so probably technically not really possible--- UNLESS!!: if you have the actual shift buttons on the steering wheel you can direct wire those to the shifter assembly (through the clockspring) to get closer to the 'active shifting' coding. That's what the B5 Passat guys do since that chassis didn't have the option for that.
It's been a few years since I read up on that, but I think that would be the easiest (still a huge headache and hassle for very little result) way to achieve what he's trying to do?
Is the 00' 4.2 drive-by-wire? - they changed from DBC to DBW in 99' pretty sure..I assume it is..if so try 00012. ?

All 40V engines are DBW.
DBC never existed in the C5 V8 models. Only the early D2 A8 / S8 models (1995 - 1999) 32V engines were DBC. Then 1999 - 2002 DBW 40V.
