I've never had one and wanted to try it out.

TIA.

This MTM one has been the best one I’ve used, but there are cheap ones on Amazon that work okay too. Depends on what you are looking for.

So what makes a foam cannon like this one create more foam than an Amazon one?

I currently have an amazon one and I am not too happy with it. I dont know if its the device, my pressure washer or if im not using enough soap.

there's some matching of orifice size and the pressure of your pressure washer. some say that a higher gallons-per-minute makes the most difference. Matt from Obsessed Garage on YouTube has some videos where he's testing out a huge variety of pressure washers to find the right combinations, he might even have a found a good combination for your model already and is selling it on his site.

I get shaving cream foam with almost anything I throw in. Just 1400 PSI, but with 2.1 GPM for my PW.

FWIW, I wanted to buy the highly regarded MTM PF22 but, at the time in 2018, there was a 1.8 gpm requirement from the power washer. My Karcher K5 is a 2000psi / 1.4 gpm unit so I went for the Torq EQP322 Big Mouth instead. Very disappointing with almost no foam (at least with Gyeon Foam). Now the MTM is sold with different size orfices so low volume applications work. Bottom line, get the MTM as others have indicated.

Wow that's amazing foam!

Thanks I'll have to check that out. I currently have the Karcher K5, I believe it has 2000 PSI. Hopefully it can produce that much foam as well.

Are you using a electric pressure washer? If so, try replacing the orifice on the foam cannon to a 1.1 MM.

Yes its electric. I'm using the Karcher k5 https://www.kaercher.com/ca/home-garden/electric-pressure-washers/k-5-premium-16033610.html

I switched out orifice and man so much foam with my electric pressure washers. My pressure is 2030 psi too

If you picking up the MTM foam gun, the newer ones should come with the 1.1 mm oriface

The 1.1 orifice is on Amazon. <10 bucks I think.

I am thinking about trying out one of these, looking at one from Griot's garage, but was wondering how it really works?

Do you still rub the car down after it is coated with foam, or do you just leave it sit on the car for a while and then rinse it off? Does it really work that well?

Thanks in advance...

Using a ph balanced soap, letting it dwell, and then rinsing it off doesn’t really do much more than a rinse, but it’s fun and satisfying to soap up everything. Probably better to rinse, then use the snow foamer, don’t rinse, then hand wash.

That's exactly what I've been doing... Rinse, foam and hand wash in sections. (It's hot and dry here so have so I break the car into 6 pieces: rear, roof+ windshield, each side doors, two halves of front). Seems to work well so far.

The foam cannon is 1) super fun haha. 2) the idea is to minimize scratching, so rinsing the mitt well, not dipping in dirty soap, etc all helps toward that end

Perfect. Thanks for the input. That is really how I had pictured it to work best as well. Think I'll give it a try. It is $150 for the best starter kit (I think it is called "The BOSS") from Griot's Garage. Does anyone think this is as good as the MTM unit descibed above?

That's pretty pricey. I'm no engineer, but every single foam cannon I've seen looks to be VERY similar... from the cheap ones on Amazon to the one from Griot's that's 100 bucks. Plenty of people (me included) have had success with the ones on Amazon for a lot less. IMO, pressure washer and soap selection are more important than the cannon.

Thickness of foam has no bearing on how effective a soap is or how much is protects your car from scratches or cleans it. This is especially true when using a ph nuetral soap when it comes to cleaning power. It's the friction from a contact wash that gets your car clean

Thickness of foam is the number one thing everyone wants to achieve and it's so ironic that this is the least important factor

I'm with you on that. I feel like for me, I want to to be runny so that as its sprayed on, it starts to run down the car and hopefully picking up any contaminants and washing them off at the same time. Ive always thought thick foam looked cool, but for cleaning, Ive always wanted my foam to run off.

I've been reading post about foam cannon and it seems most of them are getting the mtm.
I really have no idea what's good to get. What's the deal with MTM brands? Vs Amazon etc?

Any advice on a pressure washer?

MTM is basically the standard as they a very well made and perform very well. While the cheap ones all look similar, the internals are slightly different with how they're made; dimensions, tolerances, quality, ect. Most Amazon ones come with a 1.25mm orifice and to use it with good results on most consumer electric pressure washers, a 1.1mm orifice is needed. That's an easy swap. The MTM PF22 is very nice and built very well. If you weren't ready to start with that based on the price, MTM also has a standard foam cannon that works very well at a price point between the super cheap and the PF22.

As for pressure washers, here's a few:
Cheap: Karcher K5
Middle: Comet Static 1700
Expensive: Kranzle
