Hey all,
I went to a performance shop in NY to put on tires that I bought from Tirerack and after the install process the owner calls me to say that he's not able to erase/clear the codes.
I have 2014 S4 Prestige with 22k miles with no performance mods.
The alignment wasn't off to begin with (was all green when we gave me the print out results). He said once you start the process you have to go through the entire process.
He used a Modis Ultra tool and he doesn't have a vag com but is asking around to locate one that he can borrow.
The codes that come up are the following:
- Stabilization Control ESC fault
- Sport differential system fault
- Dynamic steering system fault.. you can continue driving.
I can take it to Audi but they're going to charge $170 just to diagnosis it and plus whatever the additional cost will be.
Anyone know how I can clear the codes? Will I need to use a vag com?
Also, my wife drives it about 90% of the time so I want to make sure that it is really safe to drive.
Thanks
LYKUNO

It's possible that those codes may have been stored even before the shop began work on your car. Can we assume there are no warning lights or MMI screen text messages appearing on your dashboard that were not there before? Have you had your car scanned at either a dealer or elsewhere in the recent past to be able to rule out whether these errors have only recently appeared?
Clearing codes with a Ross-Tech VCDS (VAGCOM), or Carista or similar diagnostic tool should be straightforward. Perhaps if you post what major city you're in or near in NOVA, a fellow AZ member can offer assistance with a VCDS (or similar tool).

This is the first time that these error messages popped up. On the gauge cluster I see the icon for traction control and an icon for dynamic steering. I will post in my region to see if anyone as a VAGCOM.

I wouldn’t worry about it. I’d clear them and see if they come back. Unplugging things or adjusting things can cause codes, although I don’t know about your specific situation.

Those sound like the faults I was getting when I damaged a wheel speed sensor during a wheel bearing change. VCDS will tell you for sure. Maybe check to see if a sensor got unplugged?

This morning to work the tire pressure light came on as well. The tires visually appear to be ok. I will check the pressure.

The shop probably didn’t reset the TPMS after the install. Check tire pressures and reset through the MMI under servicing & checks.
For the other issues it’s pretty ridiculous that a performance shop doesn’t have a decent enough scan tool to at least attempt to clear those faults. Unless they damaged something or needed to reset the steering angle sensor those faults shouldn’t really be there. Especially for just a tire change/ alignment and if the car wasn’t out of alignment to begin with.

I was able to reset the TPMS light on my own.
I took the car to them today because their lead tech said that he might know how to solve the issue... I got a call back and they said that they were not able to reset the light with their snap on tool and told me to take it to the dealer.
I made an appointment with Audi on Thursday.
My car was fine before I brought it to them to change the tires and alignment. I wasn't expecting to take it to Audi and spend a couple hundred dollars more. What else can the shop do compensate me for the inconvenience?

I am finding it hard to understand how you are getting faults after doing tires and alignment?! Makes no sense to me.

Did they give you any specifics on codes or possible causes? Unless it is a complete coincidence these warnings came on I'd expect the tire shop to pay for your service at Audi.

Update, I took my car at Biener Audi in NY. I told the service advisor about my issue and I also had 1 Audi care appointment left so I getting my 45K mile service done (car as 22k miles but it's an MY14).
When the advisor was writing up the invoice they're saying the fix is going to cost $1350 + $500 for calibration. I'm shocked that it will cost this much to fix the issue. Note that they didn't run any diagnosic I think because I'm not paying for anything when I pick up the car.. or maybe they didn't and are going to change out the faulty sensors..
I told them to hold off on the repair.
From the shops snap on (modis ultra tool) below are some of the error messages:
Results for 4207872 - right front wheel speed sensor supply C0035
Result for 01314 - engine control module read trouble codes intermittent
01316 ABS control module read trouble codes
03110 - Active steering control module (J792)
Also I'm going to move back down to VA in July and there's a local shop NGP that works on German cars and charges $112/hr. Going to see what they can do. I'm probably going to drive the car as is for now.
I can definitely feel performance loss and stiffer steering when I put it in comfort mode...

Here are the fault codes from VCDS when my left front speed sensor was damaged:
6201 - Function Restriction due to Faults in Other Modules (from the Engine control module)
00283 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Front Left (G47)
00473 - Control Module for Elect. Park/Hand Brake (J540)
01324 - Control Module for All Wheel Drive (J492)
01330 - Central Control Module for Central Convenience (J393)
01316 - ABS Control Module
03110 - Active Steering Control Module (J792)
0087 - Please Check Fault Codes in Control Module for ABS Brakes
0059 - Please Check Fault Codes in Control Module for ABS Brakes
All these codes cleared when I changed my damaged sensor.
You are getting a code for your right front sensor, which I would guess means it’s either disconnected or damaged (or wiring is damaged). IMO no other work should be considered prior to fixing that issue and clearing the codes. Good luck!
I took my car in to Wheel Works for an alignment today and got the car back with the same issue. Steering is stiff now and im getting: Dynamic Steering: System Fault You may continue driving. Funny part is I've gotten alignments before from the same shop, with no issue. They told me to try another wheel works as their tools may be defective... strange. Going to another Wheel Works tomorrow morning to see if they can solve the issue.
Let me know if you figure it out, and I'll update if I can figure it out as well.

Hey bro did you manage to get it fixed on your car? I took my 2013 Audi S4 B8.5 in to get new tyres and alignment yesterday and now I am having the exact same problem as you. Did you fix it through software or did you need to replace hardware?
Cheers
