2012 S4 - Parking brake malfunction warning

Hi Everyone

I'm new here but I am someone here is able to point me in the right direction. Just the other day I went to start up my S4 and to my surprise it presented me with a "parking brake malfunction" warning message. I also noticed my ABS and traction control yellow lights have turned on as a result. The strange part is if I go to engage my parking brake, I can hear the motor winding sound and it appears to be working just fine. So the next thing I did was run a quick diagnostic test using a veepeak adapter and the carista app on my phone. Before you ask, I don't have VAGCOM yet but I am considering getting one.

With a light load (radio and lights) it was sitting at 11.92v and with full load and engine turned on it was running about 14.15v . 12.36v seems slightly low to me but not too far out of the normal range. Now, I am not sure how sensitive the parking brake controller/ABS systems are but could this be causing the parking brake malfunction warning?

A low or dying battery presents itself by giving a lot of weird warnings, and shuts down different modules to save power. When you get a variety of system warnings all at once and out of the blue, it's usually the best place to start looking and rule out.

Check your brake fluid levels. I've seen something similar happen in the past.

I tend to agree with the possibility of a weakened battery. Are you the original owner of the car? If so, have you ever changed the original battery to a new one? Or if you're not the original owner, do you happen to have any maintenance records from the previous owner that would indicate if the OEM battery had ever been replaced? The Audi OEM batteries last a very long time. Mine was ~7 years old when I replaced it, and it was still working, but didn't want to risk going through another winter with it. If you, or a previous owner, has replaced it in the last year or two, I would likely look to another cause for the faults.

thank you everyone for your assistance. I have replaced the battery with an OEM one from the dealership and purchased a VAGCOM cable to get a better look at the problem. After replacing the battery I reset the fault code but it triggered again immediately which implies that the battery is not the issue. From what I see in the fault code section for my brakes I have an ABS sensor fault for the front right sensor and a parking brake control module fault still there after the reset. I suspect one of these 2 is the culprit. I am looking into what it would cost to replace either one of these and going to go for the cheapest one first. Posting the full VCDS diag here in case I missed anything.

I think I'd start by jacking up the right front and pulling the wheel/tire off and inspecting the connection on the ABS wheels sensor and the the condition of the wiring. Sometimes the hostile environment of the wheel well can cause abrasions in the wiring's insulation jacket, or damage to the ABS sensor or associated plug-in connector on it.
