View Full Version : Acceleration - veers right

Much appreciate any suggestions. My B8 S4 veers right significantly on acceleration - the harder the acceleration the more sharply it pulls right. It drives straight if there’s no load.
I had the car aligned last week and all is well. Also had both the front upper inner control arm bushings replaced at the same time (shop claimed they were cracked).
The issue was there before and after the recent service. Possible this isn’t a new issue.
Best,
John

Check motor mounts. Had an old Ford car years ago that did same thing. Turned out to me a bad motor mount.
Worth a peak.

Broken motor mounts have definitely been an issue with these cars. Good place to start

Mine does same thing 2011 6mt with 95k. Hit accelerator at it feels like it moves laterally. Is this a huge pain in ass to change? First I've heard of this issue on here.

With mine, it turned out to be a simple tire wear issue.
Yours might well be mounts, but in my case it was shop with hammer finding nail

Sounds like torque steer to me. I can say that on occasion I can get the front wheels to twitch and pull if I floor it in the right conditions. Yes, I know that these are rear biased cars and it should not happen but it does.

Weirdest thing. Drove it last night and this morning. Tracked perfect. I think I get tramlining more often than I would like. Having coil overs installed soon with a inspection. I will have tires rotated and see how it goes.

Roads aren't typically flat... they're sloped from the center/median to the shoulder for drainage.

I experience similar feelings, especially when taking off from a stand still. Always assumed it was this (mentioned above) and a bit of torque steer from the AWD system.
That being said, what mounts do you guys suggest upgrading (trans, motor, etc)? Only thing I've done to my S4 at the moment is intake since it is still under CPO.

Its torque steer dude. Don't go crazy chasing none existent problems. People are in denial that the mighty S4 could possibly have torque steer. It should not happen every time you launch but its not uncommon.

Agreed, but planned on doing these upgrades anyways. Was just curious what people have done/experienced with these mounts and if they're worth it.

Aren't these cars more of FWD based? Unlike the 3-series that offers both rear-wheel drive AND all-wheel drive.

Pretty sure the S4 has been 40/60 rear biased since like 2006. Also, I think that torque steer has less to do with front/rear drive bias as it does with the half-shaft length. FWD cars typically have a transaxle and the half-shafts are not the same length, and that affects the power delivery right to left. And that causes the wheels to turn slightly differently and you get that torque steer feeling. At least that’s how I’ve understood it.
