Hey all, convinced my co worker to join the Audi club since a tree branch fell and blew out his rear window and bent some body work. He says hes interested in the a B8.5 (facelift) S4 with a DSG. I own an S3 so I dont really know much about the S4. What sort 9f thing should he be looking out for? What kind of maintenance issues should be expect of any? Thanks again!

Preventative maintenance/previous maintenance records from the previous owner is key. Mechatronics unit issues are the biggest culprit of the DSG in these cars.
Ensure he follows Audi's recommended intervals for vehicle maintenance, and your co-worker will fare a lot better in the long-term.
Most B8.5's (from 2013 onward) had "Generation 2" DSGs. Some early 2013's had 1.5's, though.
Those 2013’s that have the 1.5 versions were manufactured earlier than others, leaving them with a previous iteration of the DSG.
Even late-model B8.5’s have instances of mechatronics issues flare up every so often, but they’re not as common...so no one’s really immune.
Good luck! [up]

Just bought my 2014 in November w/DSG, Sports Diff, Nav, and APR Stage 1 Tune
Absolutely love it. Previous owner had every maintenance record since new as well as local shop records after warranty was up. I just rolled 77k miles and car doesnt skip a beat. (I paid $22k w 74k if that helps)

Sport diff. It is a must have! A lot of these cars have drive select with adaptive dampers and steering but not the sport diff. Make sure your friend checks for that in person by going into the MMI. As others have said, try to find one that has the maintenance records. Since it's DSG, make sure the DSG service was done at 35k (if it has that kind of mileage). Cats are also prone to failure, even on some stock cars so just be aware. Other than that, solid car. I love mine!

Had 3 B8/8.5 S4s but no Cat failures. The thermostat will fail somewhere between 60k and 80k miles. Need to remove supercharger to get at T stat. So it is prudent to replace the water pump and coolant tube while the SC is off. Also, if the car has any oil consumption issues, change the PCV valve as well while you have access. These cars have been remarkably reliable even with higher mileage.GET ONE WITH A SPORT DIF! Boy,I miss mine.
