View Full Version : Wavz - 2012 S4 (6MT) Build Thread
It has been several years since I have visited this site.....I know, shame on me! Over the past 15 years I have own 1998 A4, 2000 A4 S-Line, 2014 S4, 2015 SQ5 and 2014 RS7. They were all my daily drivers and loved each one of them. I did do some mods to my SQ5, but besides that they were all pretty much stock. Well, the time has come to enjoy a build for "my new" 2012 S4. It has just under 49,000 miles and been babied its entire life. I know the guy that owns it very well, since we work in the same industry, we are both Audi nuts and he bought my RS7. Man that was hard to give up, but for business reasons it was the right choice.
I am working with a great Company out of Minnesota called Red River Motorwerks for my build. I would love to work on it myself, but this time in my life and the eagerness to get it done, it makes sense to let someone else enjoy the transformation. This will be my evening and weekend car. What the future holds......you will have to wait and see!! Once I remember how to upload pics I will add the stock S4 picks.

Looks good! How did you get the S4 badge on the grille...does it clip on? I can’t find a clip-on S5 badge for my RS5 grille. I’ve heard of people taping or gluing it but I don’t want to do that.

We cut out the blank sensor plate and relocated it and glued it on.

Haven’t driven yet on ST Coilovers, but did have KW Coilovers on my last S4 and loved them. The ST’s don’t have the rebound adjustment, but I am not tracking the car so not worried about it. I did drive in the same year S4 that had them installed a couple weeks ago and liked the feel. Definitely a stiffer ride, but not “jerky”.
I love them for the stance! Really changes the look of the car. I will comment back when I get the car.

Well..minor set back. One the wheels did not meet quality control at AG with the Brushed Grigio finish so they sent it back to be repainted. Sounds like another week set back.
I just want to drive it. I only owned it for 2 days before shipping off for the mods.

Looks great with all the yellow accents! Even as a B8.5 owner I think these pre-facelift B8s look the bee's knees, nicer than the facelift cars.

Haha...I keep telling myself that. It is starting to sink in, at least I am not drinking every night to drown out the sorrows :)
Glacier White would have been my second choice. It’s sooo clean when set up well.
My daily driver is white. This thing is pretty fun to drive.

Thanks for the complements on the Misano Red. I have owned it for it for 42 days and only have driven it once. It been in the shop since the first day I owned it.
Still waiting for the one wheel to get refinished. One of the Brushed Grigio wheels was rejected and still waiting to get it back. The painters painted all four weeks in less than two weeks. We are currently over two weeks to one stripped and repainted. They said it would be done by Wednesday of this week.

I personally haven’t driven it since they were installed. Still wait to get my car back. However, a friend of mine who just installed them. Says his car feels new again. He is not a car enthusiast, but went out of his way to say how much better he car feels with them installed. He has 100k on his original control arms.

Sorry to hear about the delays with the wheels. Just finished reading your thread and you’ve done all of the mods I want to do and more (I likely wouldn’t do the coil overs because I need the clearance in winter and would stick with stage 1)!
Car looks amazing already and is going to look even better when the wheels r on so the wait will definitely be worth it!
P.s. love the DD. I’ve heard those SRT’s are absolute monsters and they sound so mean from stock!

I agree about the SRT! Leaving the RS7 was though, but can’t complain too bad about the SRT.

Does anyone know how to shorten the throw on the clutch? I don’t like the clutch engagement point all the way at the end of the travel. Maybe I will get used to it soon enough, but thought I would ask.

A buddy of mine has a c6 corvette grand sport and I told him it was a mistake. Seeing your C7 confirms he should have listened to me an gotten a C7. Nice toy!

Pulling out that piece between the throttle body and filter and replacing it with a smooth element will greatly increase supercharger whine if desired, and I believe it would free up the intake for better flow as well.

Letting us go was tough...however the plan is to buy it back in a couple years. The guy I sold it to is the same guy I bought the S4 from. We agreed when sold it, I get first dibs. Need to keep saving up for it [emoji16]

It’s fun when I am in my mid 40’s and still get excited over these damn S4’s. I have been blessed with some pretty nice cars over my life, but this one ranks at the top! Love everything about it and can’t wait to keep making improvements in the future.

I had the cover! It’s not the shops fault, the wheels just had some issues, but AG threw in some new lug nuts for free!!!!

It's just nice when you get rewarded for your patience/time - especially when unexpected delays occur. [:)] Those lug nuts are bound to come in handy!

As we all know, we can’t say enough good things about these cars! I had a 250 mile drive home today and I felt like a kid again! Yes I am one of those guys that never grew up. All the way home I would catch myself smirking about how much fun it is to drive when you add some more power under the hood, great exhaust note and intake whine.....then you get out for a pee break and look back at the car remember it looks good too!
I will formulate a full build sheet on the car for your reading pleasure. Now it is time for me to because more familiar with the car so I can be an asset to this forum!!
