As some of you know, I picked up a '13 S4 last week and I'm not used to all the tech that comes with these cars LOL. So, what's the deal with the SIM? I believe you need a subscription for the wifi but is there any functionality that's included? It shows 2G on the dash but I have no clue if it's doing anything.

I use an SD card in the dash loaded with all my music. Don't mess with a sim card though.

Yea, the SD card is nice and I'm taking advantage of that.

Just not sure if the SIM does anything w/o a subscription. Maybe traffic through the Nav, no idea?

Also internet if you buy a subscription.

So, the traffic piece is free?

Traffic comes with satellite radio. I just turned on satellite radio and when I plugged the electronic radio ID into SiriusXM it showed I had another 5 months on a 48 month trial traffic subscription.

So it looks like you can have traffic without radio but it’s still a Sirius subscription.

I just checked and you're right! Traffic is through Sirius. So, besides internet, it doesn't look like the SIM has any use.

If I can find a way to display Google maps from my phone, I could use that for the traffic piece. Wouldn't even need Sirius or Nav :)

The data also allows Google Earth map overlays for the nav which is really nice.

I'm wondering how old everyone who uses this function in the car is. Use your phone's you old farts. LOL Specifically use Waze for traffic and your phone for whatever streaming service you already subscribe to. Don't pay for a second service. I use it in my Q7 but truthfully that's only for the kids and their tablets etc. but even now I'm thinking about going back to using my job or personal phone as a hotspot. Most plans are already unlimited so why not?
