View Full Version : Handsfree Text Read and Reply on C7 (2014) S6

Ever since I got a new iPhone XS Max, my 2014 S6 doesn't alert me to incoming text messages, read them for me, and reply via voice as it used to with my previous Nokia 920 Windows Phone. I'm not talking about displaying texts on the MMI screen as I know the 2014 S6 does not do that. In fact, when my phone rings, it doesn't alert me to that either; I just know it's ringing because the audio in the car mutes as opposed to ringing through the car speakers on my old phone, and the MMI screen changes to Phone.
Scouring the internet, I see no solution to this so thought it deserved a new thread. What I believe it comes down to is the Bluetooth setup on the iPhone to MMI with no "Show Notifications" toggle. Here's what I see on mine:
107217
Here's what users see that have this working in other vehicles:
107218
I really need to get this resolved. I can't stand the fact that this worked on a junky Windows phone and not on the latest iPhone.

That thread doesn’t help. It’s where I posted questions before I decided to post a new thread.
Anyone else have a solution, or are all C7 drivers just not using this functionality? I find it hard to believe this isn’t a bigger deal.

That could be the case, and thanks for the reply. I know it works because it worked for me for so long, so it’s hard to deal with not having it for me. Hopefully we can find a solution.

Any C7 owners getting new text notifications and able to read and reply via voice? I know it’s possible!

For some reason, it does not work with ios. Never has with my 17 A6 or 18 S6

I have never had the Text messages read in any car with bluetooth unless connected via apple car play. The car should however play your ringtone when a call comes in. The bluetooth in these earlier C7 models can be finicky. My iPhone bluetooth looks like your first picture. I am going to try and reset the bluetooth when I get a chance and see if I can get the notifications.

Are you getting them read and responding via Siri, by holding down the speech button? I know the MIB users can get them read from the text message screen but I think only android users have the ability to reply through the car unless it’s done by the external voice assistant. You try resetting Bluetooth to factory default settings then pair your phone and try again? Try connecting a buddies iPhone and see if it works. May be a glitch with the new iOS software. The approved tested software was 12.0.

When I had a Windows phone, this functionality worked in my 2005 A6. When I switched to an Android phone, I've never had that capability.

I can't get it to work with my 2018 A7 / Android phone either. I would love to have this ability.

I was getting text notifications and could read/have read to me the texts while driving, but I feel like there was an iOS update that when it installed, the connectivity went away. Not sure what setting needs to be tweaked, but I never really used it and don't need to use it honestly, so didn't look into it. If there is an easy fix/setting to change, I would enable it again though.
