Did you order the stonecarbon grill with front camera pre-mounted?? The mount is really ugly wish I would have tried to mount the OEM mount into the stonecarbon grill

I had to trim the top of the grill (back side) and my bumper for it to fit

The OEM non RS camera mount is nowhere near the RS mesh mount.

Little better shot of the OEM RS camera mount.

I don't have any input for you, other than make sure you paint / wrap the crash bar behind the mesh. I've been told my numerous people that unless you do this, it sticks out like a sore thumb.

I'm looking forward to your video. I've been putting off doing the grille due to being sick and the weather, but I purchased a Stonecarbon one a few weeks ago. I was recently told my someone that it can be done in under an hour if your know what you are doing, about 3 hours for first go around.

Yup, I'm definitely going to be spraying it black.

Hopefully We don't get rained out tomorrow... which unfortunately may happen

Ok... Yesterday was a long day of installing this AND recording the entire process. Video is done, should be uploaded tomorrow night and I'll get it posted along with some notes on the install. Here are some pictures for now.

Do you have any comments on your install since you have 7.5? Any modifications to make it fit or was it plug and play? Some say there are some minor issues getting the parking sensors to fit or install.

Everything was straight forward. Only modification I did was dremmel the license plate tabs and paint crash bar. Otherwise fitment is on point, sensors fit perfect no issues.

Yes, you need to in order to remove the bumper. I disconnected the battery like the video said and had no issues. I went for a test drive and turned on cruise control. No issues at all.

I would like to do change the grill on our 2018 A7. I was told by the body shop that if they remove the bumper cover to do the grill install, they may have to recalibrate the adaptive cruise control. Has anyone had problems with their ACC after removing the bumper cover?
Also, I cannot seem to find a RS7 type grill that has a mount for the camera under the audi rings. I do not have night vision. The grill at stonecarbon 2009 specifies to have "professional glue" to mount that camera. Can anyone explain how they mounted the front camera?
Thank for your help!

AudiC7Owners
03-04-2019, 07:58 PM
As long as you do not turn the car on while your cameras/sensors are unplugged, you should not have to recalibrate the ACC. That's why you unplug the battery in the beginning just to be safe.

Not a StoneCarbon sold grill but mine came in today - $200 shipped, waiting for my CF lip to come in on Tuesday before I install both! It came with an RS7 badge and Euro front plate adapter which I already removed and I'll be using a Dremel to file down the 3 Euro plate mount points for a cleaner honeycomb as I don't need a front plate.

I just don't understand how an owner of a car the cost 60 - 100k (A6, S6, A7, S7) would put a part, that is so integral to the brand, on that isn't OEM...Is it the 1700. that the grill costs? IMHO, it's no different than a woman wearing an LV knock off bag. However, I do also understand it's not my money and I'm not aware of other's situations.

I'm right there with you. my problem is I cant find an OEM one anywhere, been looking for weeks. best one I can find (as far as I can tell) is $400 one for Urotune, but it may be the exact same knock off stonecarbon has, just no way to tell. my local dealership is looking, but even they said go to Ebay. they have to match up VINs to an RS6 in Germany and get the grill shipped if they can find it.

Reach out to Robert at BKS tuning or Alex at Euro price. Both can source OEM stuff from the UK and Germany, which both have the RS6 Avant in their markets.

It’s pretty simple - $200 versus $1700. Based on quite a few members feedback the quality is decent considering it’s only $200 - why spend the $1500 additional just to know it’s OEM if you’re happy with the results? Besides, for $200 it’s a very reversible mod you can stomach eating to try. I honestly don’t get the hang up about having to be OEM. Would think you would be against people buying an RS grill for an S car in general then.

I’ve actually been looking for a year to find a black optics grille with just parking sensors, and I have had zero luck. Not going to spend $1100 for that either. I’d rather put the money towards wheels (first thing I did)) and an exhaust (patiently waiting on APR - can’t stomach paying $8k for the akra exhaust even tho that can be bought through Audi)).

Haven’t received it yet but will chime in with my thoughts and a few photos once it does - expecting it to be lighter and not as great quality as OEM based on others feedback.

I just checked out europrice, they have that blackoptics one, and you can choose if you want just the camera or other options. price jumps to about $1800 though, doh!

I'd be real curious on your take of the quality. I cant seem to find many people saying bad things.

Quality is very good, especially for the price. It is a chinese knock off, and ships from china. It arrived from china to my doorstep in I think 7 days... maybe 9... can't exactly remember but it was pretty damn fast.

That's fine if you have the dough and want to buy overpriced OEM equipment. But for 1700$ I could not only get an aftermarket grille that 90% of people won't notice a difference on, on top of getting the car tuned, and an intake.

Personally, I have a 7 month old baby boy and a wife who doesn't like me spending money on my car, so I have to win my battles where I can.

But there is no need to post in here bringing down people who choose to save some coin and buy an aftermarket part over paying for OEM (Which still requires modification to fit the non RS bumpers, just fyi). You may not have meant to come across as being snobby, but it's definitely how it came off.

For anyone looking, I'm selling an OEM c7.5 rs7 grille (no quattro script), aluminum color frame. Check the classifieds.
Should fit any a7/s7.

Still going to be more than stonecarbon grille, but I'll sell for a much better price than 1700 msrp and you'll have OEM quality.

good to know it's of good quality, it looks amazing. I don't think either of us meant to be snobby, just opinions. I think I might try to stone carbon option, I just cant find a bad review and it looks so dang nice for the money! also good to hear it ships quick, was nervous if I went that route it'd take months to ship. not to mention it frees up alot to do other things :) now I'm stuck on doing stage 1 or jumping to stage 2, ugh!

Just got it delivered - very quick considering I ordered it ten days ago. Initial thoughts are it’s lighter than the OEM platinum grill but the quality is great. Was worried it may have a flimsy feel but it definitely doesn’t. Will Dremel out the two license plate holes and install this week as well. After having three different black optic grilles shipped and returned - I am very happy with this one (black trim with Quattro logo, no camera cutouts).

Sorry for the delay - few pics below, installing Wednesday. Again quality for the price is great - know another member had to dremel some of the inside frame for a pre facelift S6 while the A6 has no issues. I didn’t like that the license plate holder came screwed in which you can see the small holes - def ask for that not to come on since it’s a euro plate holder anyway.

No mesh - one of the main differences with OEM is that it’s a solid plastic thin piece between the rings.

Is anyone else having trouble with the crash bar flaking after they paint it? I wouldn’t think high temp would be necessary. I wonder if ordering the rs7 crash bar cover would make more sense?

I have not yet. I used about 6-7 coats of Plastidip on mine. I made sure to thoroughly clean the crash bar with brake cleaner to remove any existing dirt / grime. I also made sure to keep the paint inside. It was a little cold to apply paint, but I kept the can at 70 deg F in the house between coats.

As gimpgutter did, I prepped my bar pretty well and used a primer/paint combo spray. It's only been about a month but there isn't any sign of chipping at all. I'm going to be removing the bumper and crash bar soon to install my heat exchanger, so I'll look to see the shape it's in then.

If it is chipping, I might wire wheel it off completely and vinyl wrap it black instead.

Mine flaked pretty bad with flexible primer/ paint. plasti dip or truck bed liner is a better option.

Just put it on this weekend - initially I thought it was too glossy but after a day or so I am really liking it. For those that may care, also took a photo showing the front side grilles which has a slightly different mesh size as well as the Quattro portion of the grille. Car needs a wash and yes I need to paint those parking sensors!!

Yes but it’s only a euro style plate. Most people have had to jury rig a solution if you want to mount a plate. I’ll see how long I can go - CA not exactly friendly on that.

Thanks! The space was always filled in for the grille - I believe the OEM has more of a mesh style while the stonecarbon has a solid piece behind the rings. May look different as i put in my black rings over the chrome ones he provided.

Looks good!

Thanks! I was def on the fence but my struggle to find a reasonably priced OEM black optics grille took me in this direction.

Just an FYI for everyone buying the quattro grill from StoneCarbon. I've had mine installed for a few months and recently noticed that the 3 tiny screws that secure the "quattro" badge to the grill rusted really badly. I swapped them out with stainless screws. May want to do the same before the rust potentially stains it.

I have a newly purchased 2018 A7. The body shop I use finally had some time to install the Stonecarbon grill I purchased. I stopped by there today and they showed me a dark gray styrofoam impact absorber that attaches in front of the metal crash reinforcement bar. We decided we would use a spray can to paint the styrofoam gloss black. Then the body shop called me late in the day and said there is a part of the bumper that will need to be trimmed in order for the aftermarket grill to fit, and then warned me if I go back to the original grill, I would need to order a entire new bumper cover due to the trimmed part no longer fitting the original grill. Ughh. Body shop sent a couple of photos showing the problem behind the grill, but I couldn’t really see much. Anyone else with a 2018 having similar problems? I’m going to stop by the body shop in the morning and see how much they need to trim in order for the aftermarket grill to fit.

Thx for responses. They did end up trimming the grill as you guys mentioned, so could go back to stock if needed. Also left the styrofoam absorber off as that would have to be trimmed also. I would have considered oem rs7 grill, but it was my understanding that the mounting points don’t match up to the A7 bumper cover.

Yes, I posted earlier showing pictures; they make a grill with each option/combinations you need but the prices fluctuated so much when I was looking - when it came time for me to pull the trigger I could not find the one with the options I needed (front camera, parking sensors, night vision, lower "quattro" section) so I found the parking sensor and Quattro and purchased it for $200 shipped (took about 4 days or so).

I spent a bit over an hour cutting, sanding, grinding, etc to make it fit but I got it all to fit:

I'm interested in doing a stonecarbon grille because of all of the confirmed quality and fitment, but not having any luck finding one available on Ebay in the configuration I need. It seems every item from this seller has the camera mount.

I need:
1) C7.5 version for my 2018
2) Black
3) Quattro lower
4) No camera mount
5) No night vision
6) No plate holder or mounting points

I also have a couple of questions:
1) Does the stonecarbon grille have the smaller mesh behind the rings or just the plain black plastic "pockets"?
2) How do my parking sensors attach to the new grille? Snap right in?
3) Are these available with a gloss black frame, but matte black mesh? I think that would look so much better than gloss mesh.
4) I think it comes with black rings, but would my factory chrome rings fit perfectly? I like the contrast.
5) Is it easy to transfer my S6 badge to it, or do I need to get creative to get it mounted?

1) Mine came with plain black (matched my stock grille)
2) Snap in, although curiously mine had to be rotated 180 degrees. Still worked for me
3) I think it's only in gloss black, as it's meant to be an RS6 replica
4) You can ask for the chrome rings instead of black. I didn't have to take out and transfer my rings at all which was nice
5) Not sure if you can transfer but my grille came with extra letters to mount on as RS6 or S6

Got one from Stonecarbon. To answer your questions directly:
1) black “pockets”
2) snap in no issues
3) I didn’t ask. Mesh is gloss on mine
4) I asked for black rings as I have blackout badges. The default was chrome. I specified black and got a response immediately that they would send both. Really quite good service for a china-knockoff company
5) I got creative with my s7 mount, this is the only thing not plug-and-play

I got this 5 days after ordering. From China. Astounding.

This took me 1 hour of work and I am not handy with cars. The whole project was longer only due to painting the crash bar (with pickup bed-liner spray paint). I did not unplug the battery. If I can do this mod ANYONE can.

I compared to my buddy with an RS7 and the (superficial) quality is identical. I obvsiously can’t speak to durability as I installed 2 weeks ago.

Go find one from Stonecarbon on eBay that is close to your desired specs. Send him a message with what you want exactly. I’m guessing he will tell you to buy the one you’re looking at and he will modify/accommodate readily. I didn’t know you could get the mesh behind the rings, that’s great.

I've had mine almost a month now, and I still haven't gotten around to installing it.

I need to dremel off the 3 europlate mounting points first.

And I'm not happy with the quality of the S6 badge so i have to figure out something for that. The plastic base is RS6 width instead of S6 width, so the S sits on a hump and doesn't sit flat, the red is too small doesn't fill everywhere it is supposed to, and the 6 is crooked. Badgeless is not an option for me. Does anyone know if my factory S6 badge will mount properly on this grille?

Yeh if you watch the install video linked to on the 1st post of this thread, the camera holder doesn't fit and needs chopping out. Doesn't show the eventual fitting of the camera though so worries me that I could lose hours and end up with something that looks fudged.

Yeh if you watch the install video linked to on the 1st post of this thread, the camera holder doesn't fit and needs chopping out. Doesn't show the eventual fitting of the camera though so worries me that I could lose hours and end up with something that looks fudged.

I'll take a picture tomorrow, but it's not very noticeable.

Yup. Looks exactly like that. I was going to try to retrofit the camera cover as well, but it would look horrible no matter what compared to just leaving it off. I think you would need the OEM RS camera cover for it to look clean, but you can't buy one of those without buying the OEM grille.

Ive got an OEM RS7 grille for sale. avoid these problems and buy OEM.
the ebay grille will save a couple hundred on now, but you'll pay thousands later if you need to go back to stock.Did you already sell your RS7 grille?

Yeah, the bottom of mine is perfectly shaped around the license plate holder which is annoying. I'm not sure if the OEM RS camera cover would work either, since it looks like it's hexagonal to perfectly fill in one of the hexagons on the grille

The front camera has a mounting bracket that attaches to the back of the ring "cups" on the OEM grille. You reuse this same bracket on the new grille which has mounting holes in the same position

Ahh ok I see. So the cutting is just to make room for the camera unit to fit through the mesh?

Yeah, because the provided camera cover is mounted too low under the rings. It's supposed to be immediately underneath the rings

So I got mine installed today and have some questions...
(i) For those with the front parking camera how did you get the front cover to mount? Eboxy...hot glue?
(ii) The quattro sign is too bright for my taste. Any suggestions on how to darken it without making it get lost completely?
(iii) What are you using to paint the sensors?

Overall, for the price I am very pleased with my purchase. It really transforms the car to what for me it should look like leaving the factory.

Most just leave it off. It's not noticeable. To retrofit it to work just doesn't work very well.

Take it off and paint it?

Luckily the A6 sensors are black... maybe look for some sensors online for sale? I know the S6 sensors are a grey color... not sure how i'd feel about painting them.

You should be able to prime/paint/clear with regular automotive paint. I think someone on this forum did that already. Maybe avoid pearl effect and lead based paint just in case.

Have been thinking of getting this after much debate over whether I want aftermarket or OEM. Eventually the cost savings won out.

I have adaptive cruise control but no night vision. Does that mean I don’t have cameras but just parking sensors?

Sent from my iPhone using Audizine (http://r.tapatalk.com/byo?rid=87676)I was leaning toward an OEM RS6 grille until I found out that NONE of the screws line up to the S6 bumper. People use it anyway without the screws, but if I'm paying that kind of price everything must line up 100% and require no trimming whatsoever. So I went with StoneCarbon.

I have a Premium Plus S6 so I have no front camera, and no night vision option.

Adaptive cruise control is unrelated. I believe the front camera comes with Parking System Plus (Standard with Prestige).

It over hundred percent does not need to be calibrated as long as you leave the battery unplugged until you have the m sensors and cameras all plugged back in.

But 3-5 hours isn't a bad quote. You have to remove the bumper and retrofit some things.

Watch the install video. It will give you a better idea.

No. The front camera is a parking aid only. The ACC package uses radar sensors behind the rear view mirror and in the bumper.

The radar sensors (2) are in the front bumper. The ACC system also requires the use of the camera behind the rear view mirror. I know because the cable between the camera and image processor module went bad, and ACC (and Audi Braking Guard) were unavailable until I replaced it.

Fyi to those who needed to swap to stainless screws on the quattro lettering....there must have been a redesign. There are no screws anymore. The quattro script just clips on now.

Also, did anyone else receive a set of the larger trunk sized S6 badges? They were thrown in loose in the bottom of the box. Not sure why.

ACC doesn’t need to be recalibrated if you don’t turn the car on while things are unplugged. 3 hours isn’t crazy, for you, but I think a dealer would be faster than me, and mine was well under 2 hours. I also know nothing about cars and am not particularly handy with many tools. It’s not like you’re installing downpipes, this is something that anyone can do.

It seems most people have the cameras, so those sell more often. I don't so maybe mine sat around unsold longer.

I finally got around to installing mine yesterday. This thread was a huge help, thanks. It's the first time I've removed the bumper on this car, but I've removed many Audi bumpers and this wasn't any different.

The entire process took me just under 1.5hrs because I have no cameras so I didn't have to do dremel anything on the new grille. I raised the air suspension and turned the wheels to each side while removing the screws and bolts in each wheelwell. It took about 10 min total to remove the bumper. The longest part was actually removing the factory grille from the bumper (what a pain) and then wrapping the crashbar. Another 10-15min to reinstall the bumper and everything was done.

Another piece of advice...once the factory grille is removed, clean the plastic grille support at the top of the bumper before installing the new grille. I didn't notice until I was finished that removing the factory grille exposed a bunch of previously hidden dirt that I now had to clean through the mesh holes of the new grille.

Again, thanks for this thread. I'd have never found the horizontal bumper bolts otherwise. They are so hard to see through the access holes in the sheet metal.

Sorry to resurrect this thread. I'm about to have a shop install my Stonecarbon grill. It arrived without the emblems or the blank pockets behind the emblems. Just empty rings. He said the emblem needed to be shipped separately due to new shipping rules. My emblem arrives monday but I'm wondering if anyone else has ordered once since the virus hit to know if I will be receiving more than just rings. I am missing the black backing behind the rings as well.

I'm not sure why you would be expecting blank pockets. Mine has smaller mesh behind the rings all part of the molded grille, no pockets necessary or possible.

Oh good. Thanks for the info. I got a hold of the Stonecarbon on ebay and they told me that not only are the emblems shipping separately but also the emblem "bowls" of the backing behind the emblem. Kind of not cool since they chose not to ship the emblem/bowl package until my grill cleared customs so I'm going on 2.5 months now. I ordered the grille, and had a body shop install it. The Quattro emblem came with holes, and the holes don't line up with the holes in the grill. Not sure what to do now. My emblem did not come with clips, and the emblem is taller than the ones here, the letters q and t hit the top and bottom of the subsection of the grill.

Update, stonecarbon responded saying the emblem is definitely taller, he's shipping a new grill with screws too. Hopefully that works.
