Hey Guys, I could use a lil help here. I'm retiring my B7 S4 finally and moving on to a 2016 A7. I was going to get the 3.0 super charged version BUT, I drove a TDI yesterday and DAMN.....
I was impressed. I own a 05 TDI Passat, great gas mileage, but, noisy, shakes, etc. The A7, ultra smooth, nice power, but I need more.
SO:
Which is easier to MOD?
Cost vs Performance

I know I can get around 458 HP & 426 TQ on 93 Octane with Duel Pulleys and software on the gas motor. Is there any modes, short of upgrading the turbo that comes close to that with diesel motor? I'm looking to pick up the vehicle with in the month.

It will be easier to find go fast parts and service for the 3.0t just based on the production numbers. APR has a tune for the 3.0TDI, You may have to look to ABT 0r MTM they have lots of experience with tuning Audi diesel motors.

If I were in your shoes, I'd opt for the TDI though...

My reply may not directly answer your question, but it will provide my perspective. I own a 2018 A7 with the 3.0t, and I also own a 2013 Q7 with the TDI. Both engines are fun, but I LOVE my TDI. You can't beat the torque and the mileage is compelling as well (especially given that the car weighs close to 6000 pounds). The other thing to consider is the extended warranty on the TDI car - I believe the 120,000 mile warranty transfers, but you will want to confirm that.

Good luck.

if we had the BiTDI in North America, I would say go with that, but considering the options available, I would go with the 3.0T. smooth, silky power, reliable, predictable, good for cold weather, better sounding engine....

Bi-Turbo...Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, lovely !
To bad we don't have that.
I'll contact APR and the other companies today, and see what they have to offer.
I will check on the warranty today.

The gas motor is going to be way easier to mod, and there are way more mods available for it. Im not picking either side (depends a lot on what you will use the car for and what you like), just helping you make a better informed decision.
