I’m looking at a 2016 RS7 with 15k miles-carbon optics package & 21inch wheels. The car fax has a ding-apparently it was rear ended, never towed and airbags never deployed. They are asking $75k and have come down to $73k. Given the Carfax blemish-should I walk or jump on this deal? There is a paint defect and one of the wheels has a deep chip that they say will be fixed. Not sure how far I should try to push them down as they made it seem like this is the greatest deal they ever offered. 103600

Can they provide paperwork on the accident repair? I strayed away from anything with accidents. If you know a body shop who can check that may help

They didn’t say anything about the paperwork but repair was done within their group. I just worry about the resale value or trade if/when I want to part ways with it.

I'd definitely want to see the paperwork to get a scope of the damage. It will definitely hurt & delay resale, crush a trade in. But if you're getting it for enough of a discount for the accident then it may be in your favor.

Is $73k a steal? I'd only consider an accident car if it was a steal.

If it was me they would have to knock off much more because of that blemish. It will make it really hard to sell later down the road and the price is not that special when looking at the current inventory I see when searching. Not sure if there is something in the vehicle that makes it that special for the price like B&O but for me I'd walk.

Thoughts on a 2014 with 36k miles single owner? Carbon optics - B&O ?

You can get a 2018 for 85k. I would say you are over paying at 73k. Plus 16 has some missing features.

What is wholesale price for one without damage? I'd shoot for that price or just below.

The color is amazing. Miles are great. If you feel like it will not bother you that something happened to the car. I would buy it however I am personally very picky and that would be for me to pass. But it is just my opinion.

The carbon package is worth a pretty penny, if there are other upgrades such as B&O, etc... it can impact the value. The miles are nice and low for a 16 which helps too. I would still look for more or at least add in a good extended warranty and maybe audicare etc....

I know what you mean, I just picked up a 16 and when shopping with several dealers many acted like I was crazy to offer them anything lower than their undiscounted prices. Without knowing how well your car is optioned it’s a bit hard to opine on its worth but if you’re patient I think you can find a better deal. Mine had a few more miles but still within normal, zero damage reports and no blemishes, was the color I wanted, had driver’s assist, DRC, comfort pkg, B&O, night vision, 21” wheels, and full Akrapovic exhaust for $74k.

I bought my 16 and paid a few thousand more than what you have been offered for a clean carfax and same mileage. My s7 had a front end accident airbags didn't go off and they totaled the car. I would look for a clean carfax.

Speaking from personal experience, if you have very detailed accident history for a minor accident and the car is higher mileage/lower price than what the RS7 you're looking at is, you can buy/own and later resell to an enthusiast a car with a blemish in the carfax history.

However, if you ever go to trade in a car that doesn't have normal/strong demand, you're never going to get a good value from the dealer and some won't even make you an offer on the car. And, if you want to sell a higher value enthusiast based car to a private party...it's way harder to do.

For me, unless it is a very very specific car I'm looking for and I simply can't find what I want without an accident in the history, I would never buy a car with an accident. Just hold out until you can get one with no accident and then hope like hell some young kid doesn't run a red light in front of you and ruin your X5Ms perfect condition report (ugh, still bitter about that one lol).

I work at a Dealership so I can see all the auction reports and what they've sold for wholesale. Without getting too far into it, wholesale on a "clean one" with that low of miles should be upper 60's. Therefore retail would be upper 70's. As long as you have all the documentation for the accident and repairs, I wouldn't be too scared of it. Maybe try to get them down some more.

A 2014 with 36k miles, assuming its in good shape, should be in the lower 60's retail.

As far as a 2018 for $85k, (I assume brand new), that's a bit optimistic.

If it has been in an accident of any kind it should automatically be priced below similarly optioned used cars. If it is not, I would negotiate it down or walk. If its not listed as structural damage, and you inspect the paint and maybe get a PPI to make sure there isn't hidden damage, I wouldn't worry about a minor accident repair ( other than it will automatically reduce the resale for you in the future)
