So I have to 2 stock airbox box for the A4 and I wanted to cut one and stick a cone filter in and be able to hear my dv but I was reading up on some stuff people say not to, anyways if I donít I still have a forge inlet pipe that I wanna install had it on my old car liked the look, anyways cut air box or nah

Cut the box and add a BOV, but only if you're MAF based

DJGONEWILD

I read that adding a bov doesnít really go to well with 1.8t

well, then why are you asking questions you know the answer to?

DJGONEWILD

My question is it worth it to get rid of the airbox or cut it and put a cone on it, to able to here the dv

ugh....

The stock airbox is good for 300chp of flow, pending other factors irrelevant to you.

If you want to go from pulling clean air from in front of the car, and instead remove the intake duct to take in hot air from in the bay to "hear your DV" then clearly there are bigger issues at play.

Reversing the direction of the DV (with a billet piston design) will add "noise" (so will a big ass turbo)

Cheers,
Wilhelm

Maybe when i have enough money for a big turbo

for the price of an Eliminator you can put a used industrial turbo on (assuming you can fabricate, haggle)

Coming from the asshole asking if the airbox should be cut for "noise"?

Yeah bro, you know so much.

Then don't mock shit when you have no idea what you're talking about.

This is my desk as of 2 minutes ago....(SPOILER: there's 400 bucks into BOTH items)

Mock, when did I mock you, when you said for the price of an eliminator turbo assuming you know how to fabricate, thatís a good idea but I canít afford that, I just spent 2k Iím taking things slow

I misunderstood your sarcasm, and for that I will repent profusely.

Misguided irritation, a few young kids want to talk about how the forum sucks now (and I'm to blame). (This same little unnamed boy is talking about finding an S4 for his daddy, which I find hilarious.)

I can see wat you mean but my bad, Iím 17 year old who just bought his second A4 that actually works and completely stock and is trying to figure things out

My first A4 was pos but it was modified and it needed to be Unmodified and I couldnít do it plus it needed a crap ton of stuff but I learned a little bit about the 1.8t but not much

No worries, and I can respect that as I was there 10 years ago when I joined (it was a bit more savage back then).

I am not of the caliber of the greats (Mike, Rob, Walky) but followed them for years, and F*&ked around ending up with a few builds of my own.

To answer your original post, you can in fact reverse DV in position, as the air passing over the piston from the right angle position will be as good as it gets (other option being a test pipe, but thats more the thweeee and not the PPOOOOOOFFF sound)

So for dv I kept my old forge one could I use that to try this and I would love to go test pipe but Iím in cali and there super strict on emissions

Gotcha, typically this is handled by splitting the cat, getting a test pipe and then welding shell of old cat around TP..
Voila.

The forge is perfect, if you oppose orientation in stock location, you should see results [up]

DJGONEWILD

I like the tp idea to make it look like a cat, is there any guides for dv orientation

Go grab your Forge DV and look at it. From the base you can look into port and see bottom of piston, you want that side in TIP
When DV operates, instead of blowing by face of piston it will now rush by its side (inverted) creating desired effect.

Piston-down side into TIP, that is reverse (and your desired position)

Reverse it, the port with the cut plumbing now goes into TIP

Its for the new car you bought yeah ? then chances are its me7.5 or so , you cant run BOV or mbc or any other stuff like that. Only thing you can run is a hybrid at max, and thats if your ecu is tuned for that minimal loss.

Fasterd
01-02-2019, 03:20 PM
Blazius you are 2 miles behind

You absolutely can run an MBC with ME5

No problem, all the same.

Make sure the vacuum line is on good, when reversed there will be no positive pressure to press valve open at face, relying solely on vacuum to yank piston back, allowing vent.

ME5 ye , not me7

Also if you have the springs, I'd go to lowest one

And why not on an ME7

No problem, I'll be here waiting for blazius to elaborate.

Blazius

Because ME7 runs everything on MAF and load/cylinder air charge. If your MAF is incorrectly scaled or there is a loss after maf aka BOVs, or external stuff that changes stuff like boost control n75 - MBC's and stuff like that is gonna mess up your tune. even DBW ecus the pedal pos is not 1:1 with butterfly opening.

Which is why I have to enable a codeword in the ECU, which basically will disable the torque calculation/intervention functions , so I can tune my car using basic maps when I install the turbo because even tho my ecu is a ME7 it does not contain the turbo related maps like Cylinder Air Charge and stuff like that.

If you want more info on Motronic evolution read this:

Fasterd

You have that backwards, ME7 used the MAP so you can (why anyone would want a BOV is beyond me. A few have run splitters in extreme applications)

ME5 is all metered air so losses post MAF create rich condition (or lean if post-MAF you pull more air)

We've established a while ago I was being an ass, and moved on to his question (which is now answered)

Wilhelm

Blazius
01-02-2019, 04:15 PM
Nope , it has MAP but its an accessory sanity check instead of controlling anything actually because the MAP is not actual manifold pressure because its upstream of from TB ( on stock applications)

but yeah ME7 is way modular, so there are some differences between revisions.

Fasterd
01-02-2019, 04:22 PM
Oh yeah?

Anyone with an ME7 want to chime in?

man it's hard to keep up to speed with all the different jargon and abbreviations from around the globe lol

so in summary .. as I have also read 50 forums saying yes go blow off valve and 50 forums saying no leave as plumb back .. is the verdict yes or no

I have chopped my factory airbox so as to create more cold air flow too .. the reason is it is not hot air at all .. it comes from inner wheel arch on driver's side (right hand side in NZ) .. and the factory tiny ass airflow feed from behind the bonnet isn't really enough

was going to put pic up but can't work out how
