So as the title states I have a built 2007 b7 a4 avant 2.0t with tiptronic, motor has je fsr pistons as well as integrated engineering rods with calico bearings. The head was cleaned and machined out and I put new lifters in too. So far it’s running the stock k03 on a giac stage 1 with a snow performance water meth kit, awe cat back exhaust, cts high flow cat, auto tech hpfp. It’s sitting on H&R coil overs and some oem reps ( I know reps ugh ) but she’s a fun daily and will be looking for more power soon. I’ve been looking at getting a k04 for some time and I’d like to see what people think of the hpa k04 kit. Thanks

What’s a stage 1 tune run like with meth? It must boogie.

I don’t have direct experience with the HPA turbo but I’m running something similar. The JHM K04R. It put down 270 WHP on a Dynojet on GIAC’s K04 tune a few weeks ago and I’ve done some more tweaking since and picked up a little more airflow. I’m probably closer to 280 WHP now. If I had to do it all over again, I would have picked CTS Turbo’s K04. Who knows where these hybrid K04 makers are getting their components from and the CTS turbo is at least a BW.

Not too bad, you can tell it’s there but only a little, it would make much better power on a tune that can really utilize the methanol. I’m really only running the w/m kit for the cooling and knock resistance, i live in Arizona and it get up to 120 degrees during the summer. But nice good to know. I’m pretty excited to throw the k04 on, I’m just waiting on injectors

Did you already buy the HPA turbo or are you still shopping around? Look at the CTS kit if you’re still shopping. It’s a real BW K04 064 and comes with a test pipe. I bought my JHM kit because it looked better or paper than the CTS kit because it has a clipped wheel and ceramic coated hot side but it doesn’t flow or perform any better than anyone else’s kit according to my logs and dyno. It’s safe to say that these other hybrids aren’t any better either.

Are you running your current meth system on a 93 tune or do you have a 100 octane tune too? You’ll get more out of the meth kit with a 100 octane file.

Who are you going to use for tuning? I’d go with a company that will let you custom tune with logs since you’ll be running a built block. You’ll be able to get more timing out of it much earlier with a built block.

Ya I already got the hpa, only reason I went with it was I found it as a scratch and dent item off of ecs for 500$, they said it should work as a new product, just has some cosmetic damage. I just got the turbo yesterday and it looks in good shape. No shaft play, wastegate looks good, no cracks in manifold. Just some scratches here and there. At the moment I’m just running a 91 octane file, it’s hard to find 93 around here, and I plan on getting a 100 octane file for the k04 once that’s on the car. I’m not sure about tuning yet, custom would be ideal but I haven’t looked much into it yet.

So I have the golf r injectors and k04 installed! Installation went very well and got a giac tune a couple days later. The turbo sounds are great and it has an amazing top end. As most people say, this definitely should have been the turbo that the car came with, it holds 17psi to redline and is super fun. 106424106425106426

That’s awesome brother. GIAC is probably the best off the shelf K04 tune. Mine seems to be running great with it. All my logs are about where they should be.

I was asking myself if water/meth could be ''useful'' on a k03 93 tune.

of course, it wont be that useful, since most tune will safely adjust itself if you ever put 91 or 87 in the car.
What are the losses on 87-91 octane over a 93 tune? hard to tell.

but for sure, it will reduce temps, prevent carbon build and get a better combustion efficiency.

It should spray after the electronic throttle body tho. hard to tell if its bad for the motorized flaps.

From my searches, cheap kits are not a thing, even if its a very simple system. But in other hand, a good kit is a must to avoid intake water flood -> possible hydrolock.

I’m mainly using the water meth kit for the safety parts of it and not as much for the power increase. I live in AZ and it gets crazy hot during the summer and on top of that the gas quality is also not great. We can only get 91 octane at most gas stations so I thought it would be a nice thing to have. If anything the meth bumps it up a couple octane but not too sure how much. In the long run I can use a 100 octane file using 91+meth and GIAC says it’ll run fine.
