BWT 2.0TFSI Coolant

I did some digging around and couldn’t find much.
I bought my A4 from a private owner. The previous owner had taken the car to shops for service/repairs, so I’m assuming a garage did this. Long story short, my car has green coolant when I see most people have red coolant in their A4.
My question is if I will run into any problems running on green coolant? About 2 months ago my water pump did seize which destroyed my motor but I don’t think it was related.

I would probably flush it out and use the right stuff. G13 coolant is around $10/L found in pure 1.5L. Probably 2 but 3 just to be safe bottles of g13 is 4.5L for $45, then a bunch of distilled water from your grocery store should be less than $1/gallon. Nah Driving with no oil pressure is way more retarded than driving with the wrong coolant.

If it's all green it's gonna work fine, the problem comes when mixing them. It says G12 on the coolant tank not G13.

Yeah it’s all scratched off where it says G12. I could only make out the G, so I just put G13 in since that’s what it had to begin with when I got it.

green coolant is not G13 so why would it be fine? i would not risk anything but G13 and isnt G12 discountinued from audi? i think i rememebr dealership saying they only carry G13 now.

I have run prestone any make any model for years..my car has been green for at least 5 years and absolutely zero problems. Color doesn't matter... what it actually is and what the chemicals are compatible with is what's important

There’s zero reason to not use the proper coolant. Zero.

New to the forum...

Just picked a up an 07 A4 Avant. Right out of the gate I had to replace the thermostat which was stuck open (low temp during morning freeway runs was the indicator). Not too bad of a job but I'm glad I tackled it as soon as I noticed it because the system was filled with only water! I used Zerex G40 50/50 after doing a full drain so I'm happy now. G40 meets current specs but you're supposed to do a flush and fill if you're going from old G12 to the newer stuff to get the proper protection. With all the hoses and plastic manifold parts that are exposed to coolant you want to make sure you use the proper coolant. Stuff with high silicates (old school green) can abrade plastic parts and seals as I understand it.

low temp, do you mean your gauge was showing low when it should have been in the middle during drive on highway? i was wondering if my theromostat is stuck open because i have HOT air coming thru the vents into my cabin. its like i have the heat turned on in the car but i dont i have it switched off. only way to stop the heat from coming into the cabin is to turn on the AC. wondering how to fix this. b7wannabe said recirculation door is stuck open but not sure if that is related to my the HOT air coming thru the vents. car also makes loud buzz sound during startup and random "burps"when shut off

luckily my gf has a semi hookup at a local dealer/shop (she doesnt press it as hard as she should[when her relatives own it]) ended up getting a flush/g13 fill for free but imagine my annoyance when she needs to refill green stuff and pays equal $$ for "premixed" coolant from a store.

"no this is better, its pre mixed!"... they mix it with water.. "but its pre mixed!!" with water..... you paid the same price for half as much. "but now i dont need to add water..."

Yes, my temp gauge never got to the middle of the range until I'd been sitting in stop-n-go traffic for a bit. With the t-stat replaced it now warms up in a few minutes and stays glued to the middle marker regardless of what's going on, drive-wise.

I suspect your problem is in your HVAC unit. I don't know much about the internals of the Audi heater box to help, but from owning Saab 9-5s and their dual-zone system I assume that you have some issues with the temp-blend servos and/or flaps. I thought the Audi HVAC systems were pretty robust? The 9-5's weren't, at least in the early years.

Yea the thermostats in the b7s are a weak point. I’ve had to replace them in both my b7s before 65k miles. They definitely should last longer than that.

Guys, just so you know, G12 is DISCONTINUED by audi and Superceeded by G13. This is the part number we all now need to run even though your reservoir says G12.

I also talked to several techs at the Audi dealership and mentioned my car has G12 in it and needs to be topped off. I asked if i need to do a full flush of the G12 before putting in G13 and he said NO. Go ahead and top off with G13. Its fine to mix and thats exactly what i did.

Apparently g13 has less toxic shit in it or something. Either way, yea it’s the new coolant hotness. Might as well get that as it’s fully compatible with cars that specified g12.
