Once some person at church backed into my s5, damaged bumper, light and fender (about 6k damage) and left i note.

You have to have front and rear cameras in those cities. I live in Dallas TX an barely drive my car but have those cameras for each time I go out. I just hope they are never used against me because they are always recording and I am not always responsible on the throttle.

Living in a dense city there are so many dangers to the perfect paint job. I am across the river in Hoboken, with the crazy parking, crowded streets, etc. Which is why I don’t buy new- it would kill me to get a scratch (or worse) on a new car. Somehow in my mind I can better deal with it buying CPO.

I got their plate on camera and police looked them up easily. had to get both driver side doors repainted, and a new side mirror. It was nearly $2000 just for the mirror. Other driver's insurance had to pay it all, though.... thanks to my video.

Does your dashcam stay on all the time? If so, is there an auxiliary battery or capacitor? I'm thinking about replacing my dashcam with the Blackvue 4K setup, but am curious how to best power it.

Living in the city, you learn pretty quick to NEVER (repeat NEVER!!!) park on the street. Find a safe garage and use uber. If it's not shitty drivers, it's parking tickets for ludicrous reasons. Always pays to pay for the garage.

Blackvue dashcams are awesome- I had a similar experience to Subterfuse, and the other driver’s insurance company paid for the full repair at my body shop of choice.
You can either wire it directly to your fusebox (which I did), or purchase their ‘power magic’ box, which is a lithium battery that charges up when you drive. Either way, the cameras stay on for as long as you want them to (there are dip switches to give you variable settings). Minimal power draw, and it shits off if it senses that your car battery is getting low. They are also wifi enabled, so if you get a mifi box on tour wireless plan, the cameras can send you alerts and upload footage to the cloud as well. I’ve got the DS-650 2 channel version- the latest 900 version with HD rear view looks awesome- I’ll likely switch to that soon

Like everyone said- dashcam is an absolute necessity now. After my 2013 A6 was hit and run, I started running a dashcam. Didn't really think about running front and rear until my last A6 ended up with a scratch on the rear bumper parked outside a grocery store. My setup right now is a Mobius X2 on the rear and an Aukey DR01 on the front. Both are hooked up to their own usb power banks. They stay on constantly as soon as the car rolls out of our garage. The powerbanks need to be charged up once every 3-4days- which might seem a little bit of a hassle to some but I am ok with that tbh

Not too long ago a cab driver hit a friends car in queens. He has a dash camera so was able to catch the whole thing.
It’s amazing how wreckless some drivers are and completely careless.
The guy comes out and kind of peeks at the damage without actually trying to acknowledge it.
Said friend confronts the person, he denies then gets video shown. Guy gets afraid then upset and said go through insurance then.

New York sucks.
