I have had enough of this bull with changing my oil in my Tiptronic Quattro. Does ANYONE make a reasonably priced oil filter relocation kit? At this point if I don't find one I might find a machine shop to make me something. Changing this is such a pain in the ass. This is by far the poorest engineered part of this car, including the mis-sized torque converter.

I would love to retrofit a spin-on type filter like the B6.

If you’re inconvenienced by having to change the oil on your car, you probably shouldn’t try to relocate the filter...

Or just pay someone and don't deal with it [emoji13]

Well then why not put one from the B6 onto your car?? Iabed I believe makes the conversion parts to fit the b6 filter housing.

I already have similar setup installed. There’s a few things you’ll need to consider if doing it yourself. Mines working very nicely I would like to change to dry sump myself.

I'll add it to the list. [wrench]

Do you have the right tools for the job? It’s not really hard or annoying to do if you do.

Just get a proper socket for the housing and a drain tool for the housing drain and changing the oil really isnt that bad. Its actually less messy than my b6. My b8 is the best though filter is right on top of the engine. The only bummer is getting the 25 screws out of the belly pan to drain the oil. Thats so tedious...

Mine has been too. But you can’t go around deleting parts off the wifemobile! That never ends well...

Okeydokey ( whatever happened to him way back, right in the middle of his respray thread [confused] ) suggested a great idea that Ive been using ever since -crack your filter housing with socket/extension etc ,put a strong plastic bag up and around the housing, spin off by hand through the bag, carefully ! remove bag and do whatever your conscience allows you with the evil contents [evilsmile]....
Voila-no need for using that damn awkward drain tool.
Job is 90% easier.

Ringsby4 Okeydokey is one of your countrymen if I recall correctly. Why don't you tell us what happened to him!! For a while he was a very frequent contributor. Thanks.

Haha Brillo I wouldn't know,he had moved to Perth over 4000kms from here and we spoke but never met....we are a small outfit over here but we don't know everyone Nor do we have kangaroos hopping down the main street...[:D] I know you wouldn't think that though...
But yes he was a regular contributor and had the smarts. He was an aircraft technical systems guy IIRC but what he started doing with the total respray job was *almost* like building the pyramids ( for a newbie )

Changing it just gets annoying. It's not difficult but trying to manuver my massive hands in there just gets to me. It's a poorly designed portion of this car and a relocation to, say a top mount filter, would make the job a 5 minute job instead of a 30 minute job. I have the mechanical know-how to do it, just unsure of the parts needed.

Tiptronics have an rpm surge issue caused by the torque converter that Audi used in the car. I guess it's more annoying than anything but from a physics standpoint I believe it would cause excessive wear on some of the rotating assembly.

Yeah, I have the right sized socket and a sort of home made drain tool. I just feel like a realization kit could be a huge advantage for a few hundred dollars. If someone made a kit, I think they would make a ton of money.

Maybe? I don’t think a ton of people would get one tbh. I’m not spending a few hundred dollars on a relocation kit to save me a few minutes of hassle threading the drain tool on. And given the complexity of the oil filter housing it wouldn’t be a cheap part to make however you swing it.

People have made conversion kits for 1.8t oil filters and they never really took off. I think it’s more to do with the economics of it than it not being a good idea.

Same deal with the roller cam conversion kits. They’re just too expensive to produce which means the price is high and most of us, despite clamoring for such a mod, don’t do it and just say “eh, what’s $30 extra for a new cam follower every few oil changes?”

Contact iabed up in Quebec. I would think at this point if anyone has solution it’s him. Would surprise me if he already does. Spoken with him in the past tons of info in his brain.
