View Full Version : What to replace when the supercharger is removed?

I have a 2014 s4 dsg with 56k miles, Ive been having some coolant loss and smell coolant sometimes. Going dual pulley soon and want to make sure I don't have cooling system issues. Im planning on pulling the supercharger and replacing the failure prone components to prevent issues for the next 50k+ miles hopefully. I know i'm going overboard but don't mind replacing these items [:D], just want to eliminate as many issues as possible. Is there any items failure prone in the area i'll be in? Any gaskets or additional seals? Also Sometimes I have timing chain rattle, These engines have oil check valves under the pcv assembly. Im wondering if one has failed causing the tensioner noise cold starting, I figure I'll replace those as-well and hope they help.
-Thermostat
-Waterpump
-Pcv Assembly
-Upper and lower intake manifold gaskets
-Fuel injector o-rings
-F22 oil pressure switch
-Front coolant pipe w/seals
-Coolant temp switch in front pipe
-Oil filter housing gasket
-Both oil check valves under pcv
-O-ring for upper coolant hose
-Both drive belt tensioner assemblies
-Both drive belt idler pulley
-Coolant
-Oil change
-supercharger oil
-Both Belts

I'm looking to do the same thing on my 2009 S4 and have put in a post to get detailed parts lists and where to get them from and DIY guides all in one.
IMHO it's a good idea specially for newbies/people that just bought theirs to have a known starting point and getting it all done at once when removing the SC rather than doing it multiple times.
Info i've found so far trawling through threads, i've seen a couple more in a few threads but i can't find it now.

-Thermostat
-Waterpump
-Pcv Assembly
-Upper and lower intake manifold gaskets (only if you remove the lower intake manifold)
-Fuel injector O-rings (only if you remove the lower intake manifold)
-F22
-Front coolant pipe w/seals
-Coolant temp switch in front pipe (not needed as its easy to do later, could just replace the o-ring)
-Oil filter housing gasket
-Both oil check valves under pcv
-O-ring for upper coolant hose (might consider replacing the hose since you have to move it with PCV and mine caused a leak)
-Both drive belt tensioner assemblies (elective, kind of early and easy to do later)
-Both drive belt idler pulley (elective, kind of early and easy to do later)
-Coolant
-Oil change
-supercharger oil
-Both Belts
**Replace the brass fitting that screws into the fuel rail and connects to the fuel lines. Mine caused a fuel leak and required me to pull the s/c again AND they are considered one-time use, regardless of people successfully re-using theirs. I've re-used them but won't do that again. **
My notes. Bold is unnecessary, but I couldn't figure out how to do a strike-through.
Edit- in addition, I wouldn't remove the intake manifolds unless you absolutely have to, as you open yourself up to needing new Teflon seals on the injectors and while it can get trivial, it can go bad as well.

Ive seen some failures of the oil pressure switch and it being only $10 i figured it best to get it out of the way. Regarding the oil filter housing gasket , I know its not a common failure at this time. It will eventually will be (very common same sealing type on 2.5l vw oil filter housing to block generally replace them around 80-100k) , if its easily accessible I will replace it. The oil check valves aren't necessary but willing to replace in hopes it helps my timing chain rattle. Thank you for the help will order the brass fitting that goes into the fuel rail. I don't want to remove the lower manifolds and fuel rails unless I have to, in order to remove the pcv assembly.
