So I recently bought a 1993 Audi S4, I've owned probably a dozen of them over the years, but this one doesn't have the fuel line recall performed, I'm curious if there is away to tell if the recall is closed or still open, I called my local dealer, and he didn't know what to do.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out on this, I'd like to gather a little but more information for you to see if we can get this resolved. As a Federal requirement, safety recalls do not have an expiration date. However, things can get a little trickier for older models in terms of part availability. Are you able to send me the VIN of your S4 in a PM and your contact info so I can set up a case?

Yup, happy to share it, you actually looked up the VIN for me already for production numbers :)

Interesting situation. In theory, someone could pick up a ‘93 S4 in the year 2118 and the recall still would be active?

any updates?

Partially....so the recall on your vehicle is still open/active, I'm still researching to determine how the dealership goes about completing this on a vehicle of your age. We have the part numbers available as well but they may have changed over your time, I will circle back when I have more info.

Thank you,

So As I previously stated, I spoke with my local dealer on the phone, the person in the service department i spoke to did not/could not find any open recalls on the car, and that was the reason I made this post. Now, After speaking with you, I went to the dealers website, where you can schedule an appointment online and it also shows you "MFG. Campaign" recalls that match your vin. Sure Enough it shows right up on their website, so I selected it and scheduled an appointment. I asked them to call me and talk to me about availability of parts (which based on the parts you listed above are available to order through the website and show in stock). I just got off the phone with Strong Audi, as they were following up, and they told me that my car doesn't need that recall. I told them, that I have owned a dozen or so of these C4 S4s and S6s and ALL of them have had the recall performed before I took ownership, This one CLEARLY has not had it performed (they literally cut two fuel lines, its super obvious looking). They are telling me it wont be done. They are now having a manager contact me back. Here is a screen shot from their website showing the recall:

dealer just called me back saying its been performed, which is false. They referred me to a Nathan at AoA, who they said told them it has been performed. I'm on the phone with Nathan, and he said he doesn't see a recall to be performed, and that he did NOT tell the dealership it had been performed.

How is it that I can see that this recall needs to be performed, yet everyone at the dealer is telling me it doesnt: This is directly from Audi's website https://i.imgur.com/A6YAM6C.png

I touched base with Nathan, we are going to need some additional time to research this to determine the best course of action for you.

Do you have another dealer nearby you could try? I would not trust a dealer that blatantly lied to you about speaking to someone (referencing them by name) when they haven't.

Appriciate that, i went and spoke in person to the dealer, they are looking into it as well, i hope it can happen soon, there is definately a raw fuel smell after driving.

Why not try a new dealer?

Why not try a new dealer?

The next nearest dealer is an hour away, and have stated the same, that they cant bill it to Audi as warranty work.

Todays Update.

I still have not been contacted back by Audi of America as Nathan said he would. I was told by the local dealer that I would be contacted back as well, never heard from them. I reached out to a friend of mine that works at that dealer in the parts department. He spoke with the service manager personally and it sounded like it was worked out, They ordered in the part that night, and the next day I got this email from the Service Manager confirming my appointment:

https://i.imgur.com/4aiKIEjh.jpg

I was very happy and glad they were going to work it out, or so I was lead to believe. I showed up this morning at 7:50 to drop off my car (after making other arrangements for work, and for dropping off my son at school, and a ride to work after the drop off). The first person I talked to who greeted me when i walked in, said that they were still waiting for approval, and that they couldn't help me. I told him that I had received an email from Ed the service manager who confirmed my appointment, so he went and got Ed. Ed told me that he hasn't heard back from Audi and they wont be doing any service until it has been approved. I was turned away and am now making my post.

I'm pretty frustrated about this, It isn't like they are rebuilding my entire motor and is costing thousands of dollars for the repair. Audis RETAIL pricing puts the parts at around 100 bucks. And the service itself is an hour of labor. We are talking about a sub 250 dollar repair. I've spent more time on this than the repair costs even at minimum wage.

Hello,

I'm sorry to learn of the experience at the dealer, I want to get this repair performed for you as well. As of right now I am still waiting for an update from my compliance specialist on how this gets processed and what the proper procedure is to limit your inconvenience. I was told that it could take up to a max of a few weeks to get final confirmation. Your case is still open with AoA, and I will follow up accordingly when I have more information for you.

Thank you,

Ruffiano
