View Full Version : Car died while on my way home, now it won't start
Hi guys, had an unfortunate last two days with my car.
Wednesday my car died while turning at an intersection, thankfully I was literally right across the stealership... they determined it was a faulty battery and replaced it.
Today on my way home, car dies while on the interstate (scary) I pull over and put it back in park wait a minute and fire it up no issues on the way home.
I go to move my car a few hours later this evening and it won't start, its making the sounds like it wants to but it honestly sounded like it fuel/air starved.
Scanned it and this is what turned up (https://pastebin.com/raw/VwnYfbPg)
5 Faults Found:
6377 - Starter Will Not Turn
P3054 00 [096] - Jammed or Electrical Malfunction
6237 - Fuel Rail/System Pressure
P0087 00 [096] - Too Low
6175 - Fuel Pump
P3045 00 [045] - Electronics Defective
6183 - Low Pressure Fuel regulation
P310B 00 [096] - Fuel Pressure Outside Specification
7819 - Turbocharger/Supercharger Inlet Pressure Sensor
P012B 00 [040] - Implausible Signal
Does this mean I'll need a new fuel pump? Anything I can check? Any risks with taking this to a credible local shop instead of getting boned by Audi's service department?
Calling a tow truck now... thanks for your feedback

Do you have VCDS? You can look at all those codes....
Looks kind of electronic related again.... [confused]

Yes, I scanned it those are from the log I posted above.

Look up fuel pressure both low and high.
Look at battery voltage.
If you can do a log of these, RPM, boost and try to start it.

It will not start anymore unfortunately, these are the faults that came up in the auto scan I tried clearing them out and seeing if I could restart but that did not work.

I would double check the battery connections just to make sure someone did not get into a rush and forget to tighten something. Worth a check.

Unfortunately I didn't have the time to review the connections, to be honest I dont know where to look for those links. Are you talking directly from the battery in the trunk?
My car died in the middle of a street in a busy street in upstate NY, having just replaced the battery I hope its just a faulty wiring situation... a new fuel pump seems ridiculous but then again this stealership may have loosely connected those wires after replacing the battery to gain a return customer.
I was charged $300 for the battery and $450 for labor, what a joke

Yes, the battery's terminal connections in the trunk under the spare! There shouldn't have been any other connections involved in replacing the battery. Checking to ensure you have sufficient battery voltage is an appropriate first step, especially since that's the only new component that was introduced into the scenario. If the connections to the battery terminals are indeed tight, than a simple check with a voltmeter should be performed to ensure the battery is actually registering 12 volts. Could also be the battery you got was defective.Where did you have it towed to? Your home, the dealer or an indy shop?

Agree on the battery connection.

I had it towed from my home to the dealership, they're taking a look at it today.

350 for the battery and $450 for labor, yikes!!!
Not sure where you are exactly op upstate NY. If you are close to albany, autobahn Motorsport does decent work.

OUCH!, What are the penalties for rape in your state? $150 for battery at Autozone or Advanced Auto. AA will change it for free.

Dealer gets you on the coding, however.

What ended up being the solution to this issue?

It's good to check the switch off sensor as well.

A battery should never cause the car to die. The alternator should keep the car going. Unless you have an issue with your alternator is the only way the car could die with a bad battery. I had a car that my battery was dead and i jumped it and drove it home without a battery even installed in the car. Granite that car didn't have as many electronics in it as these do, but the alternator on our should have enough amp output to run everything if it was on without killing a good battery.
On that not sounds like you have a fuel issue either a high pressure pump or low pressure pump.

My S4 went into power saving mode. I then charged the battery to full. Bought an autocraft gold H9 950 CCA from advanced auto for around $140 after core charge.
It has made in Germany sticker and a VW AG stamp cut into the top plastic on the battery.
I swapped it in and didn't code anything. Car is not in power saving mode and has no errors. Everything is fine.
It does have a sticker on top with the code on it for coding into the car if you have the capability.

Received a PM with a similar inquiry and the end result, posting here for history:
It was determined that the fuel pump module was shot, it was unknown if the fuel pump was also faulty and instead of taking the additional hit on having to pay for service to go back in and access the same part/area I replaced both the fuel pump module and the fuel pump.
It was $1200 out the door, Audi's are awesome.
