View Full Version : Did a highway pull with a model 3 today

On my commute to work this morning this white model 3 keeps change lane to cut in front of me without the use of a single flash indicator, so I knew he was asking for a pull. Once he changes to right lane I floored my S5, I quickly pull a car's length on him, but to my surprise the gap didn't increase and after a few second he backed off. I was in D mode the whole time.

My question is, how come I didn't pull on him for multiple car length? Given the HP difference it's hard to believe.

I'm a little surprised he didn't pull away from you.

It's not a performance model for sure, otherwise I had no chance. The long range model only has 271 hp.
And I'm APR stage 2 with TCU tune, should be around 450 hp.

It's still quick. Instant torque, no shifting, etc. Can't screw it up, just mash the go pedal. 0-100 is about 12 seconds.

Ok I just checked wiki and looks like the awd version of the long range is at 346 hp with 0-60 of 3.9 seconds. I guess APR stage 2 is really good then, at least I pulled a car length with no problem.

Electric motors with gearing actually make significantly more power than advertised. So the model 3 could be putting down almost 400hp to the wheels up to a certain speed.

It makes me want to buy a model 3 now

I thought they delivered the performance models first? Electric falls off on the top so depends on how fast you were going.

Long range models first, long range have 3 models: RWD with 271HP, AWD with 346HP and Performance with 450HP. The car this morning was a brand new car with dealer temp plate so it has to be one of these models. I don't think I had a chance against the 450HP model so I would guess it's the 346HP model. Still, it's impressive for the model 3 that my APR Stage 2 S5 only pulled one car length given over 100 HP advantage.

There's no drivetrain loss with the Model 3, either. You're losing ~15% through the drivetrain.

Completely different class of car but I bet the S4 handles just as bad.

agree. if ur looking for panel gap op then go with a FCA product I suggest dodge. They have been crapping out garbage for years vs tesla that's only been doing it what 6years. plus with a fca product you will actually receive it on time.

Musk will smoke a fatty with you if you buy one with no panel gap complaints.

Yeah my father in law has a P100D and it’s fast but feels cheap for that much cash.

I am slightly faster than the model 3 performance. Pump gas stage 2 tune being even with that version sounds about right to me.

Panel gap on my 2016 grand Cherokee is ridiculous. Wife’s car though she will never notice.

then its time to buy some handling mod, because I drove both and my S4 handles much better.

It’s a small sample size but the 3’s I’ve seen in person have had very acceptable fit and finish for a $50k car. I don’t think many people that are buying these are looking to carve up canyon roads, it’s about the tech and image of a having an electric car.

the tesla i rode in and subsequently drove and i like elon but I honestly felt like it was an utterly soulless experience no more so noticeable than in ludicrous mode. Electric cars, apparently it's the future and it sucks but it is good to see some lasting for a million miles.

^^ How many times have they replaced batteries and if they say never, they lied to you. You can't deep cycle them, if you do, good luck because you'll need new batteries much sooner.
I saw a Tesla at Laguna a few months ago and after several hard laps, brakes were on fire and batteries were overheating and out of charge. Where's the fun in that...
I'd take an H2 OR CNG powered vehicle any day before I buy battery power (Tesla/Audi) car no matter how quick it is on straight line.

This ^. And for now anyway, a battery is still just a battery and subject to the same drawbacks, whether it is in a vibrator or a 100k car. BTW- Didn't Saturn make an S as well?

Lol. I think you may be under selling the “value” of actually having an electric car, pack of impact on environment, etc. etc.

It’s easier to say the “image of a electric car”. I’d venture most actually give a shit - even if you and I don’t.

They also have more performance than most of us give them credit for. The P100 goes head to head with our beloved RS7.

I’m not a fan - but I think it’s bigger than image and tech. My unsolicited 2 cents

read post below ^^. They are not consistent performer, only ''drag-machine'' and only for a few runs, then it already loose power.
