So, it's sunny here in Eugene, Oregon, a rare occasion for February. So I wash my car and decided to detail the babe. I went and bought some Meguiars wax, came home and started on the hood. Nothing unusual at all. Gave it a coat of wax, let it sit, started on the right fender. Got a phone call, talked for half an hour and came back to clean the hood. Looks like there was a miniscule pebble or some bulls**t on the brand new terry cloth. I have SCRATCHED swirl marks in my hood and right fender. ARGH! So F**KING angry right now. Does anyone know if a compound could possibly take them out if they're not TOO deep. I'm just so bummed out right now, I can't believe it happened. Just my luck. Thanks for any advice.

Other than the product you use, application is the key to removing swirls. Use any swirl remover, like X-Scratch, but be prepared to use a lot of force if applying by hand. A random orbital is the way to go...

Claybar won't do anything for scratches. You need something like Menzerna Intensive Polish for your swirls. This stuff is all we've used on cars down here and have had EXTREMELY stunning results. http://www.properautocare.com/meninpol.html
This HAS to be applied by machine to work properly, but it will solve the problems you have.

Claybars will get rid of brake dust, industrial fallout, tree sap, road tar, bug guts, and water spots. I've heard good things about Zaino (www.zainostore.com) on black cars. You should check them out.
From what the website states, the first application is very labor intensive, but the outcome is marvelous.

3M SMR: Swirl mark remover, will hide it between washings then reapply. Works great if you can't fix them another way..
You need to be REAL careful with black cars, buy high quality microfiber and sheep wool and only go front to back , don't go in circles when washing drying or waxing...

If you take the car to a body shop or a detail shop they can buff it out for you.
