You can lube those quick-connect o-rings with a little bit of vaseline. Helps them slide on easy and seal up all nicey-nice.

And that o-ring is only 20 something years old. I'd say it did a pretty decent job holding out this long. That said, they are generally not quick to connect or disconnect and a spare o-ring is a pain to obtain and replace. A regular hose and clamp would probably be better for serviceability. I'm sure the engineers thought of this, then immediately laughed in the face of simplicity and made the things anyway. Quicker for initial assembly is my guess.

Imagine what a B9 will be like to deal with in 20 years...

Those damn German engineers, [>_<] efficiency of assembly over everything else, lol

I got to see the assembly line for A3's in Ingolstadt. They slap those things together quick, it's pretty amazing. They very obviously design the stuff to be assembled easily. The whole front end "maintenance position" thing? That's not for us. That's just so they can pre-assemble the entire front of the car in one piece - headlights, radiator and all - and bolt it on in like 8 seconds, lol.

That's pretty cool, would love to see that.

Hey! I was there! Cool video. They didn't show the bikes, though. They employees can ride bikes between various parts of the plant. Also most of the workers were pretty young. Especially in the main assembly part where they're climbing in and out of the cars. Makes sense.

They had a neat thing on our little tour where they setup the older A3 steel hood (bonnet) and the new chassis aluminum hood side by side. And they had us pick up each one to compare. I made a thread back then with some pics from my trip. No pics allowed inside the factory, though.

Yeah, riding bikes to get around is pretty common at large plants.

I knew that thread looked pretty familiar. Saw my post on the previous page from 5 years ago... jeez. lol.
